Influencer Faces Backlash Over Unrevealed Weight Loss Methods

Lifestyle influencer Elle Darby has come under fire from thousands of young female fans after admitting to using GLP-1 injections for a year to aid her significant weight loss. The revelation, made during a recent YouTube video titled ‘The Truth,’ has left many followers feeling betrayed due to Darby’s prolonged lack of transparency.

For months, Darby, who has cultivated a loyal online following over the past decade, saw her appearance change dramatically, particularly after the birth of her youngest child. Her noticeably slimmer physique fueled widespread speculation across social media, with fans repeatedly questioning if she was utilizing weight loss medications like Ozempic or Mounjaro. Instead of addressing these inquiries directly, Darby reportedly refused to answer and even blocked fans who commented on her Instagram posts about the topic.

Promoting Lifestyle While Hiding Key Factor

During this period of significant weight loss, Darby actively promoted various paid partnerships focused on food, wellness, and fitness. These included advertisements for meal-kit service HelloFresh, showcasing healthy recipes, and promotions for online grocer Ocado. She also documented the creation of an at-home Pilates studio as part of a commercial collaboration.

Critics argue that while these lifestyle changes may have been part of her routine, they were presented without a crucial piece of context: her use of GLP-1 injections. One source commented, “She has been incredibly dishonest with her followers because she led them to believe her weight-loss journey could be credited to HelloFresh and Pilates.” The source added, “Her announcement has been well overdue, but the damage to her followers has already happened.”

Fan Reactions Highlight Lack of Transparency

The reaction from Darby’s long-term followers has been overwhelmingly critical, with many expressing frustration over the lack of openness. Comments on her latest YouTube video indicate that the issue was not the use of the injections themselves, but the influencer’s perceived dishonesty towards a young, impressionable female audience.

One viewer stated, “The issue was never being on [the jabs], it was the lack of transparency when you have a young female audience… oh and the blocking of people who mentioned it.” Another added, “The concern isn’t that you chose to take a GLP-1 medication, that’s entirely your decision, but that your actions and messaging haven’t felt aligned.” Several fans recounted being blocked on Instagram for asking direct questions about her weight loss, only for her to now address the topic.

Significant Follower Loss and Past Controversy

The fallout from Darby’s admission has been significant. In the past two weeks alone, she has reportedly lost thousands of followers on Instagram, and her YouTube audience has also seen a decline. This is not the first time Darby has faced controversy. In 2022, she issued an apology for offensive tweets from 2011 that resurfaced, which contained slurs and insulted those who were overweight. This incident led to thousands of follower losses and a five-month hiatus from YouTube.

For many of Darby’s followers, the core issue remains the perception that while they were being sold certain products and lifestyle choices, they were not being provided with the complete picture regarding her weight loss journey. The question many are now asking is why it took so long for the truth to emerge.
