Zara Tindall’s Affectionate Moment with King Charles at Royal Ascot

Published on

Day three of Royal Ascot saw a touching interaction between Zara Tindall and King Charles, captured by photographers during the carriage procession. Amidst the traditional curtsies, Zara shared a warm, affectionate squeeze of her uncle’s arm, highlighting their close bond.

Royal Family’s Ascot Engagements

The annual Royal Ascot event has been a showcase of the royal family’s engagements, with earlier days featuring King Charles’s chuckles, Mike Tindall’s playful pranks, and the Duchess of Edinburgh’s impeccable curtsy. Thursday’s proceedings, however, were marked by a particularly heartwarming exchange between Zara and the King.

Following protocol, Zara curtsied to King Charles. After this formal greeting, she reached out to grasp his arm, offering an affectionate squeeze. This brief, yet significant gesture, was noted by observers and captured by the press, underscoring the reportedly strong relationship between the King and Zara, along with her husband, Mike. They are frequently seen engaging in convivial conversations and sharing laughter.

Zara Tindall’s Ascot Style

Zara Tindall presented a striking figure at this year’s races, opting for a custom Rebecca Vallance jacquard belted dress in a pale yellow hue. This choice reinforced the popularity of butter yellow as a key shade of the season. The dress was complemented by an elegant Sarah Cant hat, a sophisticated updo, and Kiki McDonough earrings. Her eyewear for the day included the Tavistock Sunglasses in Champagne by FINLAY.

The designer behind Zara’s ensemble, Rebecca Vallance, commented on the color choice, stating, “Colour has always played such an important role in how women feel when they dress. The butter yellow felt optimistic, modern and perfect for Ascot. It’s elegant, but it still feels fresh, which is something I always look for when designing occasionwear.”

Navigating Royal Ascot’s Dress Code

Insights into dressing appropriately for Royal Ascot were shared by Daniel Fletcher, the event’s first-ever creative director. He emphasized the importance of the dress code as a starting point but also encouraged personal expression within its parameters. Fletcher advised attendees to familiarize themselves with the guidelines in advance and then explore avenues like color, tailoring, millinery, and accessories to create a look that is both appropriate and uniquely their own.

Family Introductions at the Races

This week also marked a significant family moment with Zara Tindall engaging with her brother’s new wife, Harriet Phillips. Phillips made her debut carriage appearance at Ascot on Tuesday, riding alongside her new mother-in-law, Princess Anne. Later, Zara and Harriet were observed conversing trackside. The newlyweds appeared visibly pleased, sharing animated smiles while watching the races from the Royal Box.

This occasion follows Harriet and Zara’s brother’s wedding, which took place on June 6th at All Saints Church in Kemble. Fashion commentators noted that Harriet Phillips’s wedding attire, an Emilia Wickstead dress featuring long lace sleeves, a high square neckline, and a sweeping veil, bore subtle stylistic resemblances to the Princess of Wales. A fashion expert and luxury stylist observed, “There are subtle parallels with the Princess of Wales in the choice of Emilia Wickstead and the commitment to timeless elegance. What strikes me most is how effortless she looks. The dress is undeniably grand, yet she wears it with such grace and ease that the overall effect feels timeless rather than formal. It’s a beautiful example of confidence and elegance working hand in hand.”
