Adam Sandler Called Police for Basketball Game After Swift-Kelce Wedding

Published on

Adam Sandler, fresh off officiating the highly publicized wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, made an unusual call to the Nantucket Police Department shortly after the ceremony. The acclaimed comedian contacted the non-emergency line not for an emergency, but to inquire about finding a local pick-up basketball game. The incident occurred just two days after Sandler presided over the star-studded nuptials, which took place at Madison Square Garden.

Seeking a Game on Nantucket

Upon arriving in Nantucket, Massachusetts, with his family, Sandler reportedly reached out to the public safety office. Dispatcher Chris Reynolds recounted the comedian’s query to Nantucket Current, stating, “Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?'” This lighthearted request highlights Sandler’s dedication to his passion for the sport, even amidst a whirlwind of celebrity events.

Reynolds directed Sandler to the Backus Lane court, located off Surfside Road. There, the actor joined a game with local residents. One participant, Andrew Kesler, shared his experience with Nantucket Current, describing how Sandler arrived and asked to join their game. “Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick ups with the boys. He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in,'” Kesler recalled. He also offered a playful critique of Sandler’s on-court skills, noting, “Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball.”

Sandler’s Passion for Basketball

Sandler’s enthusiasm for basketball is well-documented. Even before officiating the Swift-Kelce wedding, he was spotted playing pick-up games outdoors in New York City during a significant heatwave. This dedication underscores his genuine love for the sport, which he integrates into his life regardless of his professional commitments.

Post-Wedding Activities and Fan Reactions

Following the Nantucket basketball excursion, Sandler and his family traveled to New Hampshire for Fourth of July festivities. During this time, he shared a post commemorating the holiday, which inadvertently stirred reactions from Swift’s fanbase. His message, a simple “Happy 250th America!” accompanied by an image of an antique American flag, was posted on X (formerly Twitter). Many fans, eager for details about the wedding, expressed their desire for Sandler to share insights, with some urging him to “Violate that NDA and give us something.” Others humorously questioned his silence on the event, with comments like “Casually posting this like you didn’t officiate the wedding of the century last night.”

The wedding itself, announced with video ads reading ‘JUST&T MARRIED’ at Madison Square Garden, was a significant event. Reports indicated that Sandler officiated in front of approximately 1,000 celebrity guests. While the ceremony was a major talking point, Sandler has remained publicly quiet about his specific role and experiences during the wedding itself, choosing instead to focus on other aspects of his life, such as his holiday greetings.

Connections to the Newlyweds

Sandler’s involvement in the Swift-Kelce wedding stemmed from his established connections with both artists. He has known Taylor Swift since at least 2023, when he attended the premiere of her Eras Tour concert movie with his daughters, Sadie and Sunny. He described Swift as a significant figure for his children, noting that they knew all her songs intimately and comparing her musical impact to that of The Beatles.

His relationship with Travis Kelce developed through their work on the upcoming film *Happy Gilmore 2*. Sandler praised Kelce as “a great actor and a great human.” He previously shared his family’s delight in seeing Swift and Kelce together, remarking on how his entire family would celebrate whenever Taylor was seen laughing with Travis.

A Comedian’s Perspective

Sandler’s role as an officiant was met with positive reception. George Stephanopoulos, for instance, described Sandler’s performance as “funny and touching.” Despite the public’s curiosity and the fans’ playful prodding on social media, Sandler has maintained a low profile regarding the specifics of the wedding, opting for a more private reflection on the event and its attendees.

His decision to call the police for a basketball game, while seemingly mundane, offers a glimpse into the comedian’s personal life and his ability to find normalcy and enjoyment in everyday activities, even after participating in one of the year’s most talked-about celebrity events. The juxtaposition of officiating a major wedding and then seeking out a casual game of basketball underscores Sandler’s unique position in the entertainment world.
