Dwight Yorke Urges Man Utd to Sign £68m Arsenal Star Eze

Published on

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has revealed he advised the club to sign Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise years ago, and also recommended Unai Emery as manager, asserting that the club should have heeded his counsel.

Yorke’s Past Transfer Recommendations

Dwight Yorke, a prolific striker for Manchester United during their dominant era, has spoken out about his past attempts to influence the club’s transfer and managerial decisions. He claims he urged Manchester United to sign Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise when they were less established players, suggesting a combined investment of around £100 million. Yorke stated that he specifically recommended Eze, who has since moved to Arsenal for a reported £68 million, and Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich, before their significant career advancements.

According to Yorke, Manchester United officials were skeptical of his recommendations at the time. “They looked at me and said why is he saying that? Why would we spend that money on them? They raised their eyebrows against me. Now look at them,” Yorke recounted his conversations with the club.

Managerial Advice Ignored

The former United star’s advice extended beyond player acquisitions. Yorke also revealed that he advocated for Unai Emery to be appointed as manager before the club ultimately hired Ruben Amorim. Amorim’s tenure at the club was short-lived and widely considered underwhelming, leading to his eventual dismissal. Although Manchester United were later linked with Aston Villa boss Emery following Amorim’s departure, Michael Carrick ultimately secured a permanent contract after an impressive spell as interim manager.

“I told them to go and get Unai Emery, the best manager in the country, before they went and appointed Ruben Amorim as manager,” Yorke stated. He expressed frustration that his insights were not taken seriously, lamenting, “There are other voices who have a platform and no one listened to me on Eze or Olise.”

New Plea for Lille Midfielder Bouaddi

Yorke is now urging Manchester United to pay attention to his latest recommendation: Lille’s young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18-year-old Moroccan international impressed during the World Cup, drawing interest from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United.

“I’m telling them, go and get Bouaddi now,” Yorke urged. “That’s the young midfielder you need to build this team around. He is the future.” He believes Bouaddi possesses the qualities necessary to become a cornerstone of Manchester United’s midfield for years to come.

Bouaddi’s Potential and Yorke’s Assessment

Yorke highlighted Bouaddi’s attributes, noting his comfort on the ball, positional intelligence, and creative flair. “From what I see of him playing for Morocco, I think there is something special about him,” Yorke commented. He suggested that while other midfielders might cost around £50 million, Bouaddi represents a more promising long-term investment.

“He’s very comfortable on the ball, he plays in the right position, he’s even got some nice creativity too,” Yorke elaborated. “He’s still learning the job and he’s young but will only get better with the right coaching and exposure, especially playing for a master like Carrick.”

Manchester United’s Midfield Situation

Manchester United has already made midfield reinforcements this summer, signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. However, with the departure of Casemiro and a serious injury to Manuel Ugarte, there remains a perceived need for an additional midfield presence. Michael Carrick is reportedly keen on securing a third midfielder to bolster the squad.

Yorke’s comments underscore a recurring theme of missed opportunities and a perceived disconnect between the club’s decision-makers and experienced voices like his. His latest plea for Bouaddi suggests he believes the club is still capable of identifying and securing top talent, provided they are willing to listen.
