Saidah Belo-Osagie, a Brooklyn-based comedian, brings a wealth of creative experience to SNL. Her work includes writing and directing the short film “Tinge,” creating the event series “Afrobeats Futura,” and developing her solo show “Saidah Gets Closure.” Born in Queens, Belo-Osagie has also been active in web series, notably appearing in “Abigail’s Divine Comedy.” Her growing online presence, cultivated through comedy videos on TikTok and Instagram, mirrors the trajectory of other recent SNL cast members like Jane Wickline and Veronika Slowikowska, who also gained significant followings on social media before joining the show.

Grace Reiter, hailing from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, is another notable addition. She boasts an impressive 3.9 million followers on TikTok, where she is recognized for viral content such as her “The Hunger Games (but Better)” parody trailer. Reiter’s performance background includes appearances in “The Chair Company,” a project associated with SNL alumnus Tim Robinson. Furthermore, she has contributed to the upcoming comedy series “Minimum Wage” as a writer, director, and cast member, showcasing a versatile skill set.

Season 52 Premiere and Upcoming Hosts

The new season is set to premiere on September 26, with basketball star Jalen Brunson serving as host and the K-pop group KATSEYE as the musical guest. The following week, on October 3, actress Dakota Johnson is scheduled to host. The lineup for subsequent episodes includes hosts Shane Gillis and Inde Navarrette, with musical performances by Rosalia and Gracie Abrams.

Notable Cast Departures Precede New Season

The exits of Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang represent the departure of established fan favorites. Fineman concluded her seven-season run with the show in July. In a statement, she described her departure as difficult but timely, expressing deep gratitude for her experience. “It’s really hard to leave SNL but it does feel like the right time,” Fineman shared. “I’m going to miss it a lot. But the people who work there are my family and that place is my home, and I know I’ll never be too far away.” She further characterized her time on the show as “the greatest privilege of my life” and expressed enduring indebtedness to creator Lorne Michaels. Fineman first joined the ensemble in 2019 during Season 45 and was promoted to full-time cast member in 2021.

Bowen Yang’s departure was announced in December, with his decision stemming from a desire to pursue a Broadway debut and concentrate on his podcast, “Las Culturistas.” His exit, along with others, contributed to a substantial cast shakeup following the show’s landmark 50th season. Last year, the program saw other cast members like Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow also leave the series.
