Manchester United’s attacking options have been dealt a fresh blow with striker Benjamin Sesko ruled out of the team’s recent match against Fulham due to injury. Manager Michael Carrick confirmed the setback, stating that the 23-year-old forward experienced discomfort following the midweek Carabao Cup fixture against Brighton.
Sesko’s Absence and Injury Concerns
Sesko, who has been a regular fixture in United’s lineup this season, did not travel with the squad to London for the Fulham game. His absence comes after he was substituted in the second half of the 3-2 home defeat to Brighton. There is speculation that this latest issue could be a recurrence of a shin injury he sustained in May, which hampered his pre-season preparations.
Speaking before the match at Craven Cottage, Carrick provided an update on the player’s condition. “A little bit of an assessment at the moment,” he stated. “He pulled up after the game the other day with a little bit of pain, so we’ll have to see how he is.”
The Slovenian international had featured in Manchester United’s opening six league games, starting two of them and scoring in matches against Everton and Sabah. His potential unavailability now casts doubt over his participation in Slovenia’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Scotland, North Macedonia, and Switzerland during the international break. Sesko had been named in the squad by manager Bostjan Cesar earlier in the week.

Carrick acknowledged the high standards expected at Manchester United. “I know the club, I know the role, I know what’s expected here in terms of playing at a certain standard, playing at a certain level, achieving certain things on the pitch,” he commented. He emphasized that his focus remains on the team’s performance and objectives, rather than contemplating his job security.
“In terms of future and ownership and how long I’ve got in the job, that’s just totally not in my thinking, not one part of it,” Carrick explained. “Like, how long I’ve got. It’s ridiculous to think that way in a position that I’m in, that’s just not on the radar.”
He further elaborated on his understanding of the club’s requirements. “I understand what we need to achieve and where we need to be as a football club for the owners, what they expect, for the supporters as much as anything… there’s not [much] more important for me than what they expect and what they want to see. I get all that.”

Despite the recent run of results, which Carrick described as “two or three games that we haven’t had certain results and two or three games too many because I really hate losing,” he stressed the importance of maintaining focus and resilience.
“But that doesn’t mean that the world caves in. In some minds, it does. It can’t for us because we’ve got to perform, we’ve got to get wins and we’ve got a lot of games to plan for. That’s exactly what we’re doing,” he asserted. The team is concentrating on strategic planning and execution for the upcoming fixtures, aiming to navigate the current challenges and improve their standing in the league.
