Abandoned Marvel Film Set Unearthed in Derbyshire Mine

Unexpected Discovery in Underground Depths

Urban explorers frequently uncover remarkable finds in forgotten places, but a recent venture into Middleton Mine in the Derbyshire Dales revealed something extraordinary: a long-forgotten film set buried deep underground. Two anonymous adventurers, equipped with torches, navigated the dark tunnels and stumbled upon a fully constructed scene that left them stunned.

The site featured a classic blue and white American-style coach, a raised platform, a vehicle hoist, a touring caravan, and detailed blueprints for lighting setups. Investigators believe this setup served as a filming location for the 2025 Marvel blockbuster The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the action thriller Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. Production insiders who assisted the crew confirmed these details to the explorers during their visit.

Details of the Eerie Find

One of the explorers described the moment of discovery: “I usually seek out intriguing artifacts, but discovering an entire film set was unprecedented.” They continued, “As we walked along with our torches, we suddenly entered this developed area with an old American bus parked right there. Lighting rigs stood on scaffolding, complete with a map outlining the exact positions for the lights.”

The setup included an elevator car positioned oddly in the middle of a roadway and a stage directly in front of the bus. Machinery used for assembly dotted the area, alongside a cabin equipped with a microwave and kettle. Pipes designed to maintain air quality were also present, addressing potential radon gas hazards in the mine. “It was quite a sight,” the explorer added. “We didn’t anticipate anything like this. I understand that scenes from Lord of the Rings and Mission: Impossible were shot here as well.”

Spotlight on The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The 2025 release The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, the brilliant leader of the superhero family. The film grossed $521.9 million at the box office and received strong audience approval. Set in the 1960s, it follows Mister Fantastic and his team as they balance superhero responsibilities with family life while battling the interstellar villain Galactus and his enigmatic herald, the Silver Surfer.

Vanessa Kirby portrays the Invisible Woman, Mister Fantastic’s empowered partner, while Joseph Quinn plays the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach embodies The Thing. This installment represents Marvel’s third effort to adapt the iconic family to the big screen, succeeding earlier versions from 2005 and 2007, plus a 2015 reboot.

Representatives from Disney have not commented on the rumors surrounding the abandoned set.
