Football Legend Alan Shearer Partners with Betfair for World Cup Fan Engagement

As anticipation builds for this summer’s World Cup, former England captain Alan Shearer has teamed up with betting firm Betfair to introduce a new interactive platform called the ‘Hot Take Hotline’. This initiative aims to provide football fans with a direct channel to voice their opinions and engage with a footballing icon.

The Three Lions are set to begin their World Cup journey, with their opening group stage match scheduled for June 17. As excitement for the global tournament intensifies, Betfair is offering supporters a unique opportunity to share their perspectives with Shearer, both in the lead-up to and during England’s campaign.

A Platform for Fan Opinions

Starting from England’s pre-tournament warm-up matches, including their upcoming game against New Zealand, Shearer will dedicate time each week to addressing the most provocative ‘hot takes’ submitted by fans from across the country. This engagement aims to tap into the passionate and often outspoken nature of football supporters.

During the hotline’s launch, Shearer addressed a bold question from a fan, highlighting the direct and sometimes critical nature of fan feedback. The fan questioned whether a record of ‘One Premier League title in 18 years, and an eight-game managerial spell that ended in relegation shouldn’t qualify someone as a Premier League all-time great’. Shearer’s sharp reply was, ‘That’s one Premier League title more than you.’

Betfair’s Vision for Fan Engagement

James Mackie, a spokesperson for Betfair, commented on the initiative, stating, ‘When it comes to England at a World Cup, everyone and their nan has an opinion. At Betfair, we love to celebrate those big bold takes that make football the beautiful game. So, we’ve launched Shearer’s Hot Take Hotline to give fans the opportunity to put their steaming opinions to an English football legend, and each week Alan will call it how it is.’

The ‘Alan Shearer’s Hot Take Hotline’ is scheduled to be a weekly feature throughout the 2026 World Cup. Fans interested in participating can share their opinions by calling 0800-707-4073. Calls originating from the UK are free of charge.
