Arsenal Keen on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers in Potential Swap
Following their first Premier League title win in 22 years, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly looking to strengthen his squad further. Aston Villa’s dynamic attacker, Morgan Rogers, is believed to be a key target for the Spanish coach. However, securing the 23-year-old England international may involve a part-exchange deal, as Villa manager Unai Emery would likely require assurances for adequate replacement options.
Rogers, who extended his contract at Villa Park until 2031 midway through the last season, will not be an inexpensive acquisition. Emery’s side is reportedly open to acquiring one or more Arsenal players as part of any potential agreement. The player’s impressive statistics this season – 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions – highlight his significant contribution, making his potential departure a considerable challenge for Villa to overcome.
Potential Arsenal Assets for a Rogers Deal
Several Arsenal players could be considered in a blockbuster swap for Morgan Rogers. The following five individuals are among those whose futures at the club are subject to speculation:
Gabriel Martinelli
The Brazilian winger’s name has frequently appeared in discussions surrounding potential summer departures from Arsenal. While a loyal servant under Arteta, Martinelli is perceived by some as more expendable than certain other first-team members. Despite featuring in over 50 matches this season, his average playing time has been around 45 minutes per appearance. He began only one of Arsenal’s final six league games and was an unused substitute for crucial Champions League fixtures. For Villa, Martinelli, still only 24, offers considerable experience in high-pressure matches and versatility across the forward line, which could prove a valuable asset.
Ethan Nwaneri
Nwaneri spent the latter half of the season on loan at Marseille, but the spell did not yield the anticipated opportunities due to a managerial change. This prevented him from fully showcasing his capabilities to his parent club. As a player developed through Arsenal’s own academy system, any transfer fee for Nwaneri would represent pure profit for the club. This financial consideration could become a significant factor in negotiations. Villa has previously benefited from signing players released by ‘big six’ clubs, as was the case with Morgan Rogers himself, who was released by Manchester City before his rise.
Ben White
The versatile defender has faced increased competition for first-team minutes this season, particularly with the outstanding form of Jurrien Timber on the right side of the defence. An injury sustained in early May against West Ham prematurely ended White’s season, ruling him out of the Champions League final. While his injury record might raise concerns for potential suitors, his impressive performances as a dynamic right-back have been noted. These standout displays could either tempt Villa to make a move or persuade Arteta to retain White for at least another year.
Fabio Vieira
A less conventional option, Vieira has been on loan at Hamburg this season, with the German club holding an option to make the transfer permanent. However, reports Germany suggest they are seeking to negotiate a reduced fee, potentially creating an opening for Villa. While Vieira’s physical attributes may not have perfectly suited Arsenal’s demands, Emery has previously extracted significant value from players of similar stature, such as Emi Buendia, and might view Vieira in a comparable light.
Gabriel Jesus
Jesus is reportedly set to depart north London this summer after four years with the club, having seen his role diminish following a serious injury. With only a year remaining on his contract, he is not expected to command a substantial transfer fee. Villa, who brought in Tammy Abraham in January, have seen inconsistent performances from their current forward. If they aim to strengthen their squad with Premier League experience, Jesus could represent an ideal acquisition.
