Aubrey Plaza Debuts Baby Bump, Envisions Star-Studded Birth
Actress Aubrey Plaza radiated on the red carpet this Wednesday at the premiere of her film, The Accompanist. The star, who is expecting her first child with actor Christopher Abbott, showcased her growing baby bump in a flowing off-white ensemble. The premiere, held at the SVA Theater in New York as part of the Tribeca Film Festival, saw Plaza looking radiant.
A Star-Studded Delivery Room Wishlist
During the event, Plaza engaged in a playful conversation about her ideal delivery room companions. When asked who she’d want by her side, she humorously suggested acclaimed actress Susan Sarandon, with whom she shared the stage earlier in the evening. Plaza quipped that Sarandon would be a perfect choice for a home birth, noting Sarandon’s apparent readiness for the role.
“I feel like Susan would do a really good home birth. She already asked me on the red carpet if I have a doula. I’m like, she’s ready, ready to go,” Plaza remarked. She further elaborated on her dream team, adding, “I’ve got ’em all lined up. I’ve got Patti LuPone, I’ve got Sandra Bernhard, I’ve got all the New York ladies just ready to catch the baby when it comes out.”
Reflections on a Challenging Journey
The conversation also touched upon the significant personal journey leading up to her pregnancy announcement in April. Plaza acknowledged the past couple of years have been a profound experience. “It’s been a journey, the last couple years,” she stated, adding that her impending motherhood “feels like such a blessing, and I’m just going with it.”
This period of reflection follows the passing of her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, 15 months prior to her pregnancy reveal. Baena and Plaza separated in September 2024, and he was found deceased at their Los Angeles home in January of the following year.
A Look Back at Past Relationships and Collaborations
Plaza and Baena began their relationship in 2011 and married in 2021. Following his death, she described the grief as a “giant ocean of awfulness” and a “daily struggle” in a podcast appearance. “Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just, like, be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But it’s always there,” she shared. “Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m OK, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”
Plaza is currently expecting her first child with actor Christopher Abbott. The couple has maintained a relatively private relationship, though they have been seen together publicly, including at an afterparty for Abbott’s Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman. Plaza and Abbott have a history of professional collaboration, having co-starred in the 2020 film Black Bear and later in an off-Broadway revival of the play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.
