Barry Keoghan Transforms into Ringo Starr on Beatles Biopic Set

Published on

Barry Keoghan fully channels Ringo Starr while filming scenes for the upcoming Beatles biopic. The 33-year-old actor perfectly captures the legendary drummer’s look on set.

Star-Studded Cast Takes Shape

Keoghan portrays Sir Richard Starkey, known as Ringo Starr, alongside Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Production began in November at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios.

Westminster Council confirms close collaboration with the production team, including temporary road closures at the iconic zebra crossing to recreate the Beatles’ 1969 album cover.

Detailed Transformation on Display

On set, Keoghan sports an oversized fur jacket over a striped purple shirt and cropped trousers for an authentic retro vibe. He sports a grown-out beard, Ringo’s signature shaggy haircut, and sunglasses, looking unrecognizable from his usual appearance.

The actor films dynamic scenes, including driving a vintage Mini Cooper and using a classic telephone box.

Behind-the-Scenes Insights

Director Sam Mendes describes the project as the “first binge-able theatrical experience,” unveiled at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last April. Titled The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, the films explore each band member’s perspective from their Liverpool origins in the early 1960s to global stardom and the 1970 breakup.

This marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted feature.

Ringo Starr hints at Keoghan’s preparation, stating to Entertainment Tonight: “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”

Sir Ridley Scott, promoting Gladiator II, noted Mescal’s commitment, saying the actor is “actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next.”

Keoghan recently shared his starstruck encounter with Starr on Jimmy Kimmel Live, admitting nerves prevented eye contact despite a “lovely” meeting.

Exciting Expansions

Mendes announced a talented female quartet to portray key figures Maureen, Linda, Yoko, and Pattie, calling them “four fascinating and unique figures.”
