Bernardo Silva urges his Manchester City teammates to stay focused over the next fortnight, warning that their season hangs in the balance ahead of five pivotal matches.
Grueling Schedule Ahead
Pep Guardiola’s squad faces a demanding run in all four competitions before the international break. The stretch begins with an FA Cup clash at Newcastle United as City aims to recover from Wednesday’s draw against Nottingham Forest. That result leaves Arsenal seven points ahead in the Premier League title race.
Manchester City’s next Premier League outing comes a week on Saturday at West Ham United. Two Champions League legs against Real Madrid flank that trip, while the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal looms on March 22.
Silva’s Stark Warning
“In these few weeks we’re not going to win a lot, but we can lose a lot,” Silva stated. “This month can keep us alive to fight for the competitions until the end, or it can put us down and we just go for one or two competitions. Hopefully, we will still be in all four of them in a month’s time.”
Silva expressed frustration over defensive lapses, including Elliot Anderson’s late equalizer for Forest—a player City admires ahead of the summer transfer window. As City captain, he attributes recent setbacks to poor game management.
Defensive Frailties Exposed
“It definitely puts us in a worse position,” Silva added. “Still nine games to go for us, which is a long way. We’re not happy, obviously. We wanted to be closer to put a bit more pressure on them.”
He highlighted failures against Chelsea (late concession at home), Brighton (dropped points at home), Tottenham (blew a 2-0 lead away), and Forest (twice relinquished leads). “It’s for us to control better these moments,” Silva emphasized. “But we’re still in four competitions so there’s no point in looking back now and crying, we need to go for the next game and hopefully continue fighting for all the titles, which is our main goal.”
