Second Gang Associate Detained After Brief Escape
A 31-year-old man, identified as a known associate of the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang, has been apprehended after escaping lawful custody from Royal Darwin Hospital. The incident occurred overnight, with corrections officers reporting the man’s flight shortly after midnight.
Authorities confirmed the man was a serving prisoner at the time of his escape. This latest incident follows a similar event earlier this month where a patched member of the same gang, 44-year-old Brandt Graham, fled from the Darwin Local Court dock. Graham’s escape triggered a five-day manhunt, concluding with his arrest by the dog squad on June 9.
Swift Recapture After Brief Flight
In contrast to the extended search for Graham, the 31-year-old’s escape proved significantly shorter. Police reported that the man was on the run for a mere eight minutes before being located. A spokesperson for the Northern Territory Police stated that officers responded immediately to the escape.
With assistance from the Dog Operations Unit and officers from Casuarina Police Station, law enforcement personnel located the individual on Trower Road. He was subsequently arrested and initially returned to Royal Darwin Hospital before being transferred back into corrections custody.
The man is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to face charges related to escaping lawful custody.
