Poison frontman Bret Michaels, 63, has revealed that he underwent emergency surgery to address a debilitating kidney stone. The singer shared on Facebook that he performed three concerts while enduring a week of what he described as ‘intense’ pain before seeking medical attention and undergoing the procedure.
Emergency Surgery Follows Painful Performances
Michaels detailed his ordeal, explaining that he experienced seven days of excruciating pain from a kidney stone that refused to pass. Despite the discomfort, he was determined not to disappoint his fans and pushed through several performances. These included a July 4th show in Charleston, West Virginia, a concert in Grantville, Pennsylvania, on July 11th, and a private show at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, on July 18th.
Immediately after the final concert on July 18th, Michaels was admitted to the hospital as the pain became unbearable and the stone remained lodged. “The operation has been done and is complete & I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I’ve got a complete clean bill of health,” he informed his followers.
The singer posted an update from his hospital bed, smiling and giving an “all good” hand signal while wearing his signature cap. He expressed “complete gratitude” for the hospital staff who provided him with excellent care during his stay.
A Commitment to Fans Amidst Health Challenges
Michaels emphasized his dedication to his audience, noting that he would not let them down despite his severe pain. He shared a lighthearted anecdote about his hospital admission, mentioning that he went straight from the show to the hospital and was eventually persuaded to change into a hospital gown.
“Just want to say on this #WisdomWednesday that I am wise enough to know how important family, friends, fans, doctors and nurses play such a vital role in our everyday health,” Michaels reflected in his post. His commitment to his fans is evident, as he continues to plan for upcoming performances.
Upcoming Tour Dates and Poison Reunion Hopes
Despite the recent health scare, Michaels has several solo tour dates scheduled. He is slated to perform in Interlochen, Michigan, on July 30th and Belleville, Illinois, on July 31st, with additional dates planned for August and September.
Looking further ahead, Michaels expressed optimism about a potential reunion tour with his band, Poison. While previous plans for a 2026 tour reportedly fell through due to disagreements over finances, with drummer Rikki Rockett suggesting Michaels sought a disproportionate share of the profits, Michaels remains hopeful for a 2027 reunion.
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Michaels stated, “We’re hoping for ’27, ’cause I know it’s a big question. I think – I really strongly think ’27, without going into details yet, is going to be a good reunion year for Poison. I think it’s gonna be awesome.” He also addressed the reported financial dispute, characterizing himself as an “anti-drama guy” and expressing love for his bandmates. “Rikki is my brother. And you’re allowed to agree, and you’re allowed to disagree, but we’re gonna go out there and make it an incredible [tour], honestly,” he added.
Michaels also indicated his continued commitment to his solo work and his Bret Michaels Band (BMB), stating, “I don’t see any reason we can’t do both and make it great.” His recent health emergency underscores his resilience and dedication to his music career, both solo and with Poison.
