California Teacher ID’d as Shooter at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Authorities have identified Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from the Los Angeles area, as the suspect who fired shots at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night. Law enforcement apprehended the California State University and CalTech graduate shortly after the incident.

President Trump’s Response

President Trump addressed the event in a press conference, calling the suspect ‘a sick person – a very sick person.’ He described Allen as ‘a lone wolf, a wack job. These are crazy people. Sick, sick people.’ Trump shared photos of the shirtless suspect lying face down on the ground, restrained by agents. He noted that the individual carried multiple weapons before Secret Service agents stopped him.

Eyewitness Account from Wolf Blitzer

Wolf Blitzer, who was inside the venue just feet from the shooter, recounted the chaos. ‘Apparently they got the gunman, he had a major weapon there, it was so worrisome. The noise was so loud. I was a few feet away from the gunman who was shooting randomly, half a dozen shots they were so loud,’ Blitzer stated. He added: ‘Next thing I knew couple of police officers were jumping on me trying to protect me. I think then the gunman was shot, I could be wrong, but he stopped firing. I don’t know how an individual could get that close to the ballroom with a weapon like that – he clearly had a weapon he was clearly firing I don’t know if he was aiming at anyone. I was a few feet away from that but it was very, very frightening.’

Security Breach and Rapid Response

Video footage captures the suspect breaching a security checkpoint and sprinting toward the ballroom doors. Officials have not disclosed a motive or confirmed how he accessed the area. Agents swiftly secured the premises and evacuated President Trump, who briefly stumbled before being assisted off stage. A spontaneous ‘God Bless America’ chant erupted from one corner of the room during the evacuation.

High-profile attendees including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were safely escorted out. No injuries occurred among guests, though one Secret Service agent sustained a chest wound protected by his bulletproof vest.

Official Statements and Aftermath

The White House issued a statement: ‘The US Secret Service, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department, is investigating a shooting incident near the main magnetometer screening area at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. One individual is in custody. The condition of those involved is not yet known, and law enforcement is actively assessing the situation.’

Trump posted on Truth Social praising the response: ‘Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we ‘LET THE SHOW GO ON’ but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement.’ Organizers canceled the event after considering resumption.

Law enforcement flooded the area, with National Guard securing the building. Guests exited but could not re-enter as teams conducted sweeps.
