Charli XCX Weighs In on James Bond Theme: Open but Unsure Fit

Published on

Charli XCX has shared her thoughts on the possibility of recording a theme song for a James Bond film, expressing doubts about her suitability while remaining open to the opportunity if approached.

Charli XCX’s Take on a Bond Theme

The ‘Brat’ artist discussed the prospect during an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show. She stated, “I got to say, I don’t think that I am built for that. I think I probably sing with too much AutoTune to do a James Bond.”

She added, “Never say never. I’m open to it if they want to call me, which they won’t but, yeah. I think it might not be a fit, but that’s, well, yeah. It’s not going to happen now, is it? So amazing. I don’t know.”

The James Bond franchise boasts a storied history of iconic theme songs, featuring artists such as Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, and Paul McCartney in earlier eras, alongside more contemporary performers like Adele, Sam Smith, and Billie Eilish.

Interest from Other British Artists

Oasis has also been mentioned in connection with the next Bond theme. Noel Gallagher recently expressed enthusiasm, calling it “an absolute honour” and emphasizing that “those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks.”

Updates on the Next James Bond Film

Amazon MGM assumed creative control of the Bond series last year. Denis Villeneuve, director of ‘Dune,’ has been confirmed to helm the upcoming installment, with Steven Knight of ‘Peaky Blinders’ overseeing the screenplay.

Producers seek a fresh face for the lead role following Daniel Craig’s departure after 2021’s ‘No Time to Die.’ No casting announcement has occurred yet, though Callum Turner emerged as the bookmakers’ favorite last month.

Charli XCX’s Expanding Projects

Charli XCX is composing the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of ‘Wuthering Heights,’ starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. The album releases on February 13 and is available for pre-order.

She plans to increase her acting pursuits, with several projects scheduled over the next year. This follows her revelation of feeling more inspired by film than music after ‘Brat’ left her “stuck, empty and barren.”

In May 2025, she indicated her next non-soundtrack album would diverge from ‘Brat,’ noting, “You can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop, which I’m down for to be honest.”

Additionally, her mockumentary ‘The Moment’ arrives in UK cinemas on February 20.
