Tragic Collision Claims One Life, Critically Injures Former Athlete

A former college football standout is in critical condition following a devastating hit-and-run incident that also resulted in the death of his fiancée. The collision occurred on the morning of June 1, when a vehicle reportedly veered onto a Colorado sidewalk, striking multiple pedestrians.

Devastating Impact and Heroic Efforts

Kyle Vasey, a 30-year-old former Penn State football player and one-time member of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons roster, was walking with his 35-year-old fiancée, Corinne More, when the incident unfolded. More was pronounced dead at the scene. Vasey sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures, and was rushed to a local hospital. Reports indicate he remains on a ventilator, with his left arm being the only limb not affected by the crash. He has undergone extensive medical treatment, including six surgeries for three spinal fractures and four broken ribs. A fundraising campaign initiated by his family highlights the mounting medical expenses and appeals for support.

Additional Victim and Driver Apprehension

A third pedestrian, 72-year-old Dianne Windes, was also hospitalized with multiple injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities apprehended 28-year-old Adam Bauserman approximately fifteen minutes after the incident. Witnesses described the driver as having a revoked license due to a prior DUI conviction. According to witness accounts, the driver allegedly intentionally struck the pedestrians before making a U-turn, driving past the scene, and fleeing. Another witness pursued the vehicle for over five miles to Daniels Park, leading to Bauserman’s arrest.

Investigation and Driver’s Statements

Law enforcement officials noted Bauserman’s “unusually quiet” demeanor following his apprehension. Reports indicate he inquired about whether he had killed anyone. Investigators currently do not believe Bauserman knew any of the victims. A doctor’s affidavit following the incident described Vasey as being at significant risk for permanent disfigurement or death.

Community Reaction and Official Statements

The family of Kyle Vasey has expressed optimism regarding his physical recovery following initial surgical procedures. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly commented on the driver’s presence on the road, stating, “He should never have been on the roadway, period.” The Sheriff also lamented the loss of life and the destruction of lives caused by what he described as a “selfish act.” While some witnesses have suggested the act was deliberate, Sheriff Weekly indicated that authorities are investigating all possibilities but currently have no definitive indication of intent.

Floral tributes have been placed at the site where the tragic collision occurred.
