Crystal Palace Targets Jhon Duran in January Window

Crystal Palace receives an opportunity to acquire Jhon Duran from Aston Villa before the January transfer deadline at 7pm on Monday. The Colombian forward currently plays on loan at Fenerbahce from Al-Nassr, following a £64m transfer from Villa. Duran pushes for a Premier League comeback, with Palace emerging as a potential destination.

Duran’s Push for Premier League Return

Duran faces challenges securing regular starts at Fenerbahce, prompting his representatives to seek a mid-season move, possibly eyeing the 2026 World Cup. Lille leads negotiations to assume his loan until the campaign’s end and holds the frontrunner position. Intermediaries also contact several Premier League sides, including Leeds, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace, while West Ham evaluates an earlier proposal.

Palace’s Striker Search Amid Mateta Uncertainty

This interest arises as Palace navigates developments surrounding Jean-Philippe Mateta. The key forward reportedly secures a contract with AC Milan and sits out the squad for the upcoming Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. Manager Oliver Glasner refuses to release the Frenchman without securing a replacement. Palace initially targets Wolverhampton’s Jorgen Strand Larsen, but that agreement now falters.

Duran’s Impressive Premier League Record

Duran’s brief stint in the Premier League proves impactful, highlighted by technically challenging goals despite limited minutes under Unai Emery. He achieves a strike rate of 0.9 goals per 90 minutes. Former teammate Amadou Onana praises his potential, stating, “I think Jhon’s going to be a crucial player for us this season. He is a very talented young man. Big, fast, physical.”

In comparison, Strand Larsen records 0.3 goals per 90 minutes at Wolves. While the Norwegian contributes through strength and aerial ability in broader play, Duran shines as a substitute, boosting his efficiency. Sustaining that rate in full matches remains uncertain, yet Duran presents a dynamic option for Glasner, potentially delivering greater scoring threat than Strand Larsen for the season’s remainder.

Palace must act swiftly on the Duran offer from intermediaries, though Lille remains the primary contender. No further progress emerges beyond initial approaches.
