David Charvet, the 53-year-old Baywatch star, appeared in public for the first time after a tragic early-morning accident where his truck fatally struck a neighbor’s dog. He was spotted in Calabasas grabbing a smoothie at the upscale Erewhon market alongside his girlfriend, Oksana Rykova, and a friend.
Details of the Incident
The collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. on April 16, 2026, in a gated Malibu community. Charvet drove through the neighborhood in low-light conditions when he encountered a neighbor walking three dogs. His representative states he slowed his vehicle, moved aside to pass safely, but one dog darted under the truck. Charvet immediately stopped, dialed 911, stayed at the scene, and cooperated fully with investigators.
The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department describes the event as accidental, noting the dogs were off-leash and entered the roadway. Officials confirm Charvet swerved to avoid them. He faces no criminal charges.
Neighbor’s Account and Conflicting Reports
The dog’s owner, Vera Errico, claims her 11-year-old English Labrador, Sunday, was on a leash along with two other dogs when Charvet’s pickup truck struck it and left the scene. Sunday was rushed to a veterinarian but was euthanized due to injuries. Errico alleges Charvet only called authorities after exiting the community.
Law enforcement clarifies it was not a hit-and-run, as Charvet contacted emergency services promptly.
Charvet’s Statement
A spokesperson for Charvet emphasizes he is an animal lover and responsible dog owner who would never intentionally harm a pet. His thoughts remain with the family grieving their loss.
Post-Accident Sighting
Hours later, Charvet drove the same truck during his outing, dressed in a black Nike tank top and shorts. He showed no visible signs of distress.
Career Transition
Charvet portrayed Matt Brody on Baywatch from 1992 to 1996 and appeared on Melrose Place. Father to 18-year-old son Shaya and 19-year-old daughter Heaven from his marriage to Brooke Burke, he left Hollywood to prioritize family.
Reflecting on the shift, Charvet shares: “Before I had my first child, I was traveling for five years in 42 countries doing concerts. I had to find a different meaning to my life. I wanted to be there for my children every single day.”
He now partners with The Jones Builders Group in Los Angeles, constructing 10 to 14 homes annually. His last film role was in 2013’s Prisoners of the Sun, followed by a brief 2017 TV appearance.
