Deezer: Nearly Half of Daily Uploads Now AI-Generated Tracks

Published on

Deezer reports that artificial intelligence now powers almost half of all tracks uploaded to its platform daily. The streaming service adds approximately 75,000 AI-generated songs each day, accounting for 44 percent of total new uploads.

AI Detection and User Protections

These AI tracks represent just 1 to 3 percent of overall listening time among users. Deezer detects and flags 85 percent of AI uploads, demonetizing them to curb fraud. The company deployed an AI-detection tool early in 2025 and began labeling flagged content last summer. To ensure transparency, Deezer excludes AI-generated music from algorithmic recommendations.

This 44 percent figure marks a sharp rise from 28 percent in September and 10 percent in January.

AI-generated music is now far from a marginal phenomenon, and as daily deliveries keep increasing, the music ecosystem must act to safeguard artists’ rights and promote transparency for fans,” states Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer. “Thanks to our technology and proactive measures implemented over a year ago, we have minimized AI-related fraud and payment dilution in streaming.”

Study Reveals Listener Challenges

A Deezer study from November, conducted with Ipsos across 9,000 respondents in eight countries, found that 97 percent cannot distinguish AI-generated music from human-created tracks. Participants listened to three songs and failed to identify the AI one.

Over half (52 percent) expressed discomfort at the indistinguishability, while 71 percent felt shocked. Only 19 percent trusted AI music, and 51 percent worried it produces low-quality, generic sounds.

Broader Industry Responses

Spotify recently removed 75 million spammy tracks and targeted AI impersonators. In a statement titled ‘Spotify Strengthens AI Protections for Artists, Songwriters, and Producers,’ the platform noted: “AI technology evolves fast, and we will roll out new policies frequently.” This action followed reports of unauthorized AI songs appearing on deceased musicians’ profiles.

In March, a singer-songwriter admitted guilt in a fraud scheme, using thousands of AI-generated tracks and bots to siphon millions in streaming royalties.

The UK governt has abandoned plans allowing AI companies to train on copyrighted works without permission, though industry experts call for stronger measures.
