Linebacker Devin Lloyd, previously with the Jacksonville Jaguars, has agreed to a three-year contract worth $45 million with the Carolina Panthers. The agreement includes $25 million guaranteed.
Lloyd, 27, delivered his strongest performance yet during the 2025 season, recording five interceptions, one fumble recovery, seven pass breakups, 10 quarterback hits, and 81 tackles. Highlights included a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs, earning him second-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection.
Transition from Jaguars
The Jaguars opted not to exercise Lloyd’s fifth-year option last spring following underwhelming results in his initial three seasons. Selected 27th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Lloyd started strong, claiming NFL Rookie of the Month honors in September with 24 tackles, six pass breakups, and two interceptions over his first three games.
Challenges arose later that rookie year when coaches benched him in favor of fellow rookie Chad Muma due to positioning errors in pass coverage and weaknesses against the run. Lloyd reclaimed his starting role but faced similar struggles in 2023 and 2024.
2025 Turnaround
Lloyd excelled in 2025 under new head coach Liam Coen and first-year defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. The scheme shifted him toward pass rushing rather than coverage, unlike previous coordinators Ryan Nielsen and Mike Caldwell.
He logged career highs of 95 pass-rush snaps and 24 pressures. Coverage snaps dropped to a personal low of 331, allowing just one touchdown—compared to 13 over 2022-2024. Across four seasons with the Jaguars, Lloyd amassed 436 tackles, nine interceptions, 3.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, 26 pass breakups, and five fumble recoveries.
