Ashton Kutcher, who co-starred with Dane in the 2010 rom-com Valentine’s Day, shared a poignant message on X. “The Franklin strip fanatics fantasy football league will miss Mr. Eric Dane,” Kutcher wrote. “We know you’ll be watching from the booth. Miss you, buddy. Let’s keep fighting the fight to solve ALS.”
Nina Dobrev, Dane’s co-star in the 2022 film Redeeming Love, posted on Instagram Stories alongside a behind-the-scenes photo. “Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Eric,” she said. “He was warm, generous, prepared, and so passionate about what he did. He will be deeply missed. Sending love and heartfelt condolences to his family.”
Sam Levinson, creator of HBO’s Euphoria where Dane portrayed Cal Jacobs, expressed his grief. “I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric,” Levinson stated. “Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing.”

Dane’s family released a statement announcing his death. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” they said. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
The family highlighted Dane’s advocacy: “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received.” They requested privacy during this difficult time.
Progression of Illness and Legacy
Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025. ALS, a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leads to loss of muscle control. By June, he had lost function in his right arm and hand. By October, he relied on a wheelchair.
He leaves behind his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13.
