Fans Slam Gen Z Etiquette at Ed Sheeran’s Aussie Concerts

Published on

Fans attending Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour in Australia voice strong frustration over poor concert etiquette, especially from younger attendees more focused on social media than the music.

Tour Kicks Off Amid Growing Complaints

Ed Sheeran launched his Loop Tour Down Under in Perth on January 31 and performed across multiple cities, concluding at Adelaide Oval on March 5 after over a month of shows.

At the Adelaide concert last week, several fans report disruptive behavior from Gen Z groups. One attendee detailed a group of four sitting behind them who talked loudly from the first song onward.

‘By song three, I had enough and turned around and impolitely told them to shut up, because who in their right mind disrespects the people around them talking so loudly you can’t even hear the performer?’ the fan recounted. ‘They just kept on talking for the whole night… Their best comment for the night: “Sorry I am just putting it out there I haven’t brushed my teeth.”‘

The fan questioned why anyone would pay $150 for a ticket just to chat throughout the event.

Similar Issues at Other Venues

Other concert-goers shared comparable experiences. One described groups talking constantly and even louder during songs to hear each other over the music, calling it ‘so f***ing annoying.’

Another noted, ‘People there more for the social media photo opportunity than to actually enjoy the music.’

At a show in the Entertainment Centre, a fan grew infuriated after 15 minutes and confronted two 18-year-old girls and their boyfriend, starting politely but ending firmly: ‘Show some respect and be quiet while they are performing.’

In general admission areas, crowds pushed forward aggressively, even before Sheeran took the stage during opener Mia Wray’s set. One observer lamented, ‘A fantastic concert absolutely ruined by young girls yelling over the music and singing as terribly and as loudly as they could.’

Sources suggest this reflects a broader trend at under-30 events, where concerts serve more as social hangouts than music experiences.

Surprise Sydney Performance

Sheeran recently surprised fans with an unannounced appearance in Sydney. The 35-year-old joined Irish group Beoga for an encore at their Paddington RSL headline show, ahead of his Accor Stadium gigs.

He performed lead vocals on the traditional folk tune Wild Mountain Thyme and his hit Shape of You. Video footage of the impromptu set quickly spread online.
