Officials distributed the alert at the end of February 2026, stating: “We recently acquired information that as of early February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to conduct a surprise attack using unmanned aerial vehicles from an unidentified vessel off the coast of the United States Homeland, specifically against unspecified targets in California, in the event that the US conducted strikes against Iran.”

Criticism of Trump’s Middle East Strategy

Political analyst Spencer Critchley condemned former President Donald Trump’s approach to the conflict, describing it as lacking a clear strategy. Critchley highlighted Trump’s recent contradictory statements on the war’s status.

“He routinely contradicts himself in the same sentence. He’s done this several times just in the last few days,” Critchley said. “He says we have won this war. He said that a couple of days ago to calm the oil markets. He said, ‘It’s very complete.’ And then in the next breath said, ‘But we are going to be fighting as long as it takes because I don’t feel we’ve won enough.’ It depends on which part of the sentence he’s in.”

Critchley referenced an incident where Trump suggested, without evidence, that Iran bombed an elementary school on the war’s first day, killing 175 people, including many children. When questioned by a New York Times reporter, Trump reportedly responded ambiguously.

“He basically said, ‘It was and it was not and I know and I don’t know.’ He does this all the time,” Critchley remarked. “One of the magical qualities that Trump does have is that he’s the perfect figure, for this time at least in American history, as the figure that people can project onto and whatever they want to believe is true.”

The analyst portrayed Trump as a figure who resonates with public beliefs, unlike some other leaders. However, Critchley added: “Trump is a lifelong conman and he’s only out for Donald Trump. This whole reputation he has as this successful businessman, his entire business career was one failure after another.”
