Ferguson’s Scathing Text After Arsenal’s Champions League Final Loss

Ferguson’s Private Verdict on Arsenal’s Final Performance Revealed

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly conveyed a blunt assessment of Arsenal’s display following their Champions League final defeat. The legendary Manchester United manager is said to have sent a text message to Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi after PSG’s penalty shootout victory over the Gunners.

The final, held in Budapest, saw Arsenal’s early lead, secured by Kai Havertz, cancelled out by an Ousmane Dembele penalty. The match ultimately went to penalties, where Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed their spot-kicks, dashing Mikel Arteta’s hopes of securing a historic double for his team.

Ferguson’s Critical Message

Following the match, Ferguson, a two-time Champions League winner with Manchester United, reached out to Al-Khelaifi to offer congratulations. However, the message also included a sharp critique of Arsenal’s performance throughout the 120 minutes of play. Analysis of the game indicates Arsenal struggled with possession, holding less than 25 percent of the ball, and managed only one shot on target – their sole goal.

Ferguson’s reported text message to Al-Khelaifi read: “Nasser, this is Alex Ferguson. Well done, it was a tough night for you, but you played against a boring team that did nothing but defend. Enjoy your holidays, you deserve it.”

Conflicting Reports on Ferguson’s Wording

However, a reporter has suggested that Ferguson’s exact phrasing may have been different. This account claims that Ferguson did not label Arsenal as “boring,” but instead stated, “You were the team that played football.”

Player Reactions to Arsenal’s Style

Joao Neves, a PSG player, also commented on Arsenal’s approach after the Ligue 1 side’s victory. He expressed his elation at being a two-time European champion and highlighted the team’s collective effort. “Coming here was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love everything here. We deserved it today, because PSG were the only team that wanted to play,” Neves stated.

Al-Khelaifi Reflects on Historic Win

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG president, spoke about the significance of the win for his club. “Today is an amazing history day,” he told TNT Sports. “Last year, back to back, it’s not easy, the Champions League is difficult. So proud of the team, of the coach of the staff, of the fans.”

Al-Khelaifi added that despite doubts, the team believed in their ability to win. “Everybody doubted us again, but thank god we made it and we believed. Amazing. I told my guys after the first half, we are going to win. I promise you I felt it before the match, I know it was tough.” He also offered his sympathies to Arsenal, acknowledging them as a “great team, fantastic team, all the best, big respect for them.”
