Blaze Destroys GarWyn’s Garden Cafe
Firefighters tackled a fierce blaze that gutted a beloved cafe in Perth’s northern suburb of Lexia overnight. The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. at GarWyn’s Garden Cafe on Gnangara Road, where flames ravaged the interior of the building.
Crews contained the fire, but the damage inside remains extensive. Owners expressed devastation over the loss, though no injuries occurred as the premises was empty at the time. Investigators now probe the cause of the outbreak.
Free Bus and Train Travel Becomes Permanent
The state government confirms free bus and train services on Sundays and for schoolchildren heading to and from classes will turn permanent. A trial delivered a sharp rise in public transport usage, justifying the expansion.
Premier Roger Cook announced the decision, which carries a $70 million price tag in the upcoming state budget. “Our incredibly popular free Sunday transport program will continue for another year,” Cook stated.
