New ‘Full Monty’ Tour Features Beloved TV Stars
A highly anticipated stage adaptation of the iconic film The Full Monty is set to embark on a major UK tour in 2027, coinciding with the film’s 30th anniversary. Initial casting announcements reveal a lineup brimming with familiar faces from British television, promising a nostalgic and entertaining theatrical experience.
Key Cast Members Revealed
The production, adapted for the stage by the film’s original screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, will feature a cast of popular actors. Among the confirmed performers are Kevin Clifton, known for his success on Strictly Come Dancing, who will take on the role of Gaz. Stewart Wright, recognized for his role in Doc Martin, will portray Dave. James Gaddas and Ben Onwukwe, both familiar to viewers of Coronation Street, are set to play Gerald and Horse, respectively. The cast also includes Jon-Paul Bell from Hollyoaks as Guy and Zrey Sholapurkar, who has appeared in Lark Rise to Candleford, as Lomper.
Tour Kicks Off in Sheffield
The tour is scheduled to commence in Sheffield, the city where the original film is set, in January 2027. The production will then travel to nine other UK cities, concluding its run in York in July 2027. The narrative of The Full Monty, set against the backdrop of Sheffield in the mid-1990s, explores the struggles of a group of unemployed friends navigating economic hardship, a theme that continues to resonate with contemporary audiences facing similar challenges.
Writer’s Enthusiasm for the Return
Simon Beaufoy expressed his excitement for the upcoming tour, highlighting the enduring relevance of the story’s themes. “A lot has changed in Britain since The Full Monty appeared thirty years ago. What hasn’t changed is our need for laughter, compassion and dignity,” Beaufoy stated. He added, “I’m so delighted the Monty Men are back on the road with all their flaws, jokes and wobbly bits, bringing a bit of much-needed joy to audiences once again.”
