A fierce debate unfolded on GB News between presenter Ben Leo and political commentator Jonathan Lis over Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s handling of escalating tensions with Iran.
US President Donald Trump recently unleashed sharp criticisms against Starmer, accusing the UK of entering the conflict after America had already prevailed. These remarks came via social media just yesterday.
The GB News program broke the news that Starmer had held a conversation with Trump shortly after the US leader’s public tirade.
Commentator Slams ‘Unhinged’ Reactions
Jonathan Lis addressed the host, stating: “I find it extraordinary that when so-called patriots salivate at the US president trying to humiliate a British prime minister. This is unhinged.”
He emphasized Starmer’s alignment with public sentiment: “Keir Starmer, unlike some people I could mention, is actually representing the views of British people.”
Lis highlighted widespread opposition to the war, noting: “The British people are not gunning for war and getting incredibly excited about dropping bombs on Iranian school children. They are saying that they don’t like this war.”
Many Britons resist even limited involvement, such as permitting US access to UK bases for defensive operations. Lis pointed out that a substantial share of the population seeks total non-involvement, while majorities in both the UK and US reject the conflict outright.
