Hayden’s father, Phil Eastbury, explained that their travels have a distinct purpose: finding opportunities for Hayden to engage with the community and develop his confidence. “Travelling around Australia, a lot of people can find a bit of a theme, you know, visit national parks, or see the ‘big things’. But our theme has been finding purpose for Hayden through the ABC,” Phil Eastbury shared. “We also kind of felt as a family a bit ‘therapy-ed’ out, if I’m honest, so we thought what better way to seek new opportunities, and develop a lot of what we learnt through therapy, we can take it out on the road and apply that out in the community.”
The family’s determination to reach every ABC bureau, no matter how remote, underscores their commitment to Hayden’s engagement. These visits have been instrumental in helping Hayden build his confidence in both asking and answering questions, skills he hopes will one day lead to a career at the ABC.
