Helena Bonham Carter has departed production on season four of The White Lotus just days after filming began in the South of France.

Filming kicked off last week for the HBO anthology series, which features a new storyline and exotic location each season. The 59-year-old actress was set to join a star-studded cast including Heather Graham, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, and Rosie Perez.

HBO’s Official Statement

HBO issued a statement confirming the exit stems from creative differences with her character. “With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” the network explained.

The statement continued: “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten, and will be recast in the coming weeks.” HBO added, “HBO, the producers, and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
