The 52-year-old star revealed her decision on Tuesday’s episode of her podcast, House Of Halliwell, citing a lack of compelling roles and a desire to prioritize raising her three sons in Washington state.

Combs explained that the scripts and opportunities coming her way were no longer igniting the passion she once felt for her craft. “The stuff that I was getting and coming across my desk was just nothing that I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is really great. I need to do this,'” she shared on the podcast. She also noted that as actresses enter their 40s and 50s, the available roles can become less varied and interesting.
“Being in, you know, that 40 to 50 range, the job pool gets even smaller and smaller. And I feel like the roles get a little less interesting,” Combs elaborated. While she acknowledged that the landscape for actresses in her age bracket has improved compared to previous decades, the specific parts offered did not resonate with her.
A Move to Washington and Family Focus
A significant factor in Combs’s decision was her relocation to Washington state to focus on her family. She is mother to three sons: Finley, Riley, and Kelley. The shift towards a more private life away from Hollywood intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was a lot of family. During COVID, we had three teenagers. Well, it was three teenagers and a preteen in the house, and it was just mayhem and chaos,” Combs recalled. This period of intense family life solidified her desire to step back from the demands of a full-time acting career.
Reflections on Acting and the Future
Despite stepping away, Combs admitted that she occasionally misses the experience of acting. “I miss it occasionally,” she stated. “Because, like you said, there’s those moments when you’re involved and you’re acting and you’re working that are just, I think it’s like being present.” She described the unique feeling of inhabiting a different character and experiencing different situations as a form of “escapism” that can be profoundly peaceful, even during dramatic scenes.
“We get to escape into this different character with a different set of situations than our own life,” Combs continued. “And there is something about being in that moment that is quite peaceful, even if you’re doing something highly dramatic.”
Beyond Acting: Podcasts and Businesses
Combs has found fulfillment in other endeavors, including her podcast House Of Halliwell, a rewatch series focused on Charmed that she launched in 2022. The podcast keeps her connected to her most famous work and her fanbase. Additionally, she revealed she is actively involved in running “15 other businesses,” indicating a busy and multifaceted life beyond her acting career.
She suggested that a return to acting might be possible once her youngest son, Kelley, completes high school, at which point she anticipates having “a lot more time on [her] hands.” Given that Kelley is currently 17, this potential return could be on the horizon.
