Iran Strikes Kuwait Energy Sites as US Rescues Downed Pilots

Published on

Iranian forces have targeted energy facilities in Kuwait, including the headquaers of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation struck by a drone. These attacks follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s ultimatum demanding Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours or face severe retaliation, including strikes on Iranian power plants.

Iran sealed the critical waterway to enemy ships after initial U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28, triggering sharp rises in global oil and gas prices.

U.S. Pilot Rescue Operations

The United States successfully rescued a colonel from a downed F-15E Strike Eagle in Iran’s mountainous terrain. Trump called the mission one of the most daring search-and-rescue operations in U.S. history. The injured officer is now safe. A second pilot was rescued in a separate operation the previous day, with no American casualties repoed.

Intense clashes occurred between U.S. commandos and Iran’s Basij paramilitary in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, where the aircraft went down. Iranian authorities had offered a reward for the pilot’s capture. In a related incident, a U.S. A-10 Thunderbolt II sustained Iranian fire, but the pilot ejected after leaving Iranian airspace and was recovered.

Strike Near Bushehr Nuclear Plant

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization denounced a U.S.-Israeli strike near the Bushehr nuclear power plant—the fouh since fighting erupted—as a grave violation. The attack killed a security guard and damaged an auxiliary building near the perimeter.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed no radiation increase. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi voiced deep concern, emphasizing that nuclear facilities must never be targeted.
