Juventus Target Everton’s Beto in Late Striker Hunt

Published on

Juventus have submitted an inquiry for Everton striker Beto as they urgently seek to bolster their attack before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Everton’s Reluctance to Sell

Sources indicate that Everton remains hesitant to allow the 28-year-old Portuguese-born Guinea-Bissau international to depart at this late stage without securing a suitable replacement. Beto joined the Merseyside club in 2022 for £25.8 million from Udinese and serves as one of only two senior strikers alongside Thierno Barry.

Background on Beto’s Form

Beto has struggled to consistently find the net during his three seasons in England. In his debut campaign, he scored five goals across all competitions, including three in the Premier League. The following year, he improved to ten goals total, with eight in the top flight. This season, he has netted four times overall, three of which came in Premier League action.

His most recent contribution was a dramatic equalizer in the seventh minute of stoppage time during Everton’s 1-1 draw away at Brighton on Sunday, securing a valuable point for the visitors.

Juventus’ Broader Search

Under manager Luciano Spalletti, Juventus has prioritized acquiring a new center-forward. The Italian giants previously explored a deal for Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, engaging in talks with his representatives for a potential loan with an option or obligation to buy. However, they declined to meet Palace’s £35 million valuation for the French international.

This pivot to Beto reflects Juventus’ determination to finalize a signing before the deadline, though the move appears unlikely given Everton’s stance.

Moyes’ Comments on Beto

Everton manager David Moyes praised Beto’s efforts following the Brighton match. “I’m really pleased for Beto because it’s hard to convey how dedicated he is as a worker,” Moyes stated. “He’s doing everything possible to improve his form, and he thrives on goals. He wants to score. Sometimes, one goal can shift your momentum. Last year around this time, when I first joined, he embarked on a great scoring run for me. I hope this one reignites that confidence.”

Potential Incoming for Everton

With Beto likely to remain at Goodison Park, Everton plans to pursue Chelsea winger Tyrique George to strengthen their attacking options.
