Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway appears overjoyed alongside broadcaster Liam Halligan at a South London velodrome. The 59-year-old beamed as she cheered him on during the Duchenne Dash, a cycling event to Paris, on Friday.
Joyful Moments at Herne Hill Velodrome
Garraway and Halligan, a former GB News economics editor, giggled together before posing for photos. She captured images of him on her phone, drawing attention from onlookers who described her as deliriously happy. Halligan, a longtime acquaintance of Garraway’s late husband Derek Draper for two decades, prepared for the bike ride while she offered enthusiastic support.
Symbolic Shift with Wedding Rings
Observers noticed Garraway has transferred her wedding and engagement rings from her left hand to her right. Friends explain she initially removed them for the Celebrity Traitors filming last year and chose to reposition them permanently. “Kate always wants Derek close by,” one pal shared. “She considered a necklace but decided to move them during the show, marking a step forward.”
Growing Closeness Between Garraway and Halligan
The pair recently spent a weekend in Halligan’s hometown of Saffron Walden, Essex. They also appeared cozy at The Railway Arms pub, where Halligan performed with his band, The Hooligans. Friends note Garraway enjoys his company immensely and laughs often with the 57-year-old Sunday Telegraph columnist.
Halligan, separated from journalist Lucy Ward and father to three children—including daughters Maeve and Ailis who join his band—shares a connection with Garraway. Sources indicate she hopes their friendship evolves into romance, though she recognizes complexities following Draper’s death from cardiac arrest in January 2024. He had battled severe Covid complications since March 2020, with Garraway caring for him at their north London home alongside children Darcey, 20, and Billie, 16.
“It’s progressing positively,” a friend says. “Kate feels giddy with excitement. Seeing her happy delights everyone. She still loves Derek deeply and grieves, but she’s embracing joy. Liam charms her constantly.”
Garraway’s Outlook on Romance
In a December podcast with Jamie Laing, Garraway expressed openness to new love. “I wouldn’t want to live without romantic love again—that seems sad,” she stated. “I’m not ready yet, and wonder if anyone would want me.” She added playfully, “Talk to your mates; see if any single dads are available, Jamie.”
She prefers organic meetings over dating apps: “I’m old school—live life, pursue passions, and connections happen naturally.”
