Prisoner Claims Lee Andrews Boasts of Financial Support Amidst Confinement
reports within Dubai’s Al-Awir prison suggest that Lee Andrews, partner of former glamour model Katie Price, is boasting about receiving financial assistance from Price while incarcerated. These claims have emerged amidst a reported feud with fellow inmates over his “strange behaviour,” according to an individual with firsthand knowledge of the prison environment.
Conditions and Inmate Interactions
The prison, which houses approximately 6,000 inmates, including prominent figures like suspected Irish gang boss Daniel Kinahan, has reportedly implemented strict measures. All inmates undergo mandatory head shaving to prevent lice infestations. An insider described the situation, stating, “They’ve been watching horror films, including Saw and The Conjuring.” The source also noted that Andrews’ shaved head, while a prison requirement, was perhaps less impactful as he was already experiencing hair loss.
Andrews has reportedly claimed to Price during phone calls that he and Daniel Kinahan communicate in Gaelic to bypass guards’ understanding. However, the same source downplayed the significance of these interactions, suggesting they were fleeting and that Andrews may be embellishing the extent of his connection with Kinahan. “Daniel probably thinks he’s a total melt like some of us in here,” the source admitted, adding that conversations are a way to pass the time and inmates will talk to anyone.
Allegations of False Narratives and Prison Life
Fellow prisoners have reportedly expressed skepticism regarding Andrews’ accounts, with some sharing notes about his evolving stories. “Not everyone thinks he is credible, and some of us have been sharing notes about his stories as they keep changing. He’s a strange man,” an inmate commented. Andrews has allegedly told fellow prisoners he was arrested during an arms deal near the Abu Dhabi border and subsequently held in isolation for days without seeing daylight.
Despite the harsh realities of prison, Al-Awir offers certain amenities. Inmates have access to a weekly supermarket for snacks and cigarettes. Initially, Andrews reportedly lacked funds for phone calls, as he missed the designated time to acquire a prison system card. Once obtained, these cards can be loaded with money for food and communication. Andrews has allegedly bragged that Price would provide him with cash, though the veracity of this remains unconfirmed.
Opportunities for Earning and Recreation
Inmates can earn money through various tasks, including cleaning, laundry, sewing, and crafting items from recycled materials. A black market also reportedly exists within the prison, where inmates trade excess purchases. Andrews, far from being idle, has access to a gym and multiple televisions, though altercations can occur over remote controls. Sports, particularly football, are a significant pastime, uniting inmates from diverse nationalities.
Previously, Andrews was reported to have pleaded for financial assistance. His current prison diet is described as monotonous, consisting mainly of chicken and rice, making supermarket purchases a welcome alternative. Despite being incarcerated for nearly four weeks, Andrews is reportedly maintaining a confident demeanor, described as having “more front than Harrods.”
Release Prospects and Financial Realities
Andrews has reportedly made calls to Price and expressed his belief that he can access the £140,000 required for his release. However, well-placed sources indicate that even with the funds, his release could be significantly delayed due to the slow pace of the Dubai legal system. “The system in Dubai is notoriously slow,” a source explained. “Lee isn’t going to be able to get his hands on £140,000, and if Katie has said she’s not giving him the money, he’s going to struggle to raise that kind of cash.” The source concluded, “There is no way he is coming out anytime soon. And even if by some kind of miracle he did get the funds, it would be weeks before he is released.”
