Music legend Kenny Loggins, celebrated for his iconic contributions to film soundtracks and his early career with Loggins and Messina, has revealed he is married for the third time. The 78-year-old singer shared the personal news during a Q&A session at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Thursday.

During an event discussing his film Kenny Loggins: Conviction of the Heart, the artist took a moment to acknowledge his wife. “I want to take a moment and acknowledge my wife, Lisa,” Loggins stated, introducing Lisa Hawkins to the audience. Reports indicate that Loggins and Hawkins eloped to Hawaii, and a photograph from their private ceremony is featured in the documentary.

Loggins, who has been in a relationship with Hawkins for approximately eight years, has been a prominent figure in the music industry for decades. He first gained widespread recognition in the 1970s as part of the rock duo Loggins and Messina, before embarking on a successful solo career. His extensive list of accolades includes two Grammy Awards.

A Career Defined by Hits

Kenny Loggins is perhaps best known for his indelible connection to Hollywood blockbusters. His songs have become synonymous with some of the most memorable films, including the title track for the 1984 dance film Footloose and the electrifying anthem “Danger Zone” from the action classic Top Gun. His ability to craft songs that perfectly capture the spirit of a film earned him the moniker “King of the Movie Soundtrack.”

Reflecting on the synergy between music and film, Loggins previously shared his thoughts on writing the Footloose theme. He admitted he had no inkling of the song’s future classic status when he was writing it. “This [was] the biggest movie of the summer,” he recalled, referring to the Kevin Bacon-starring film. “You can’t see that coming.” He also noted the evolving relationship between pop music and cinema, stating, “Back then, pop music and movies were not necessarily symbiotic… All of a sudden, it was working.”

Family Life and Musical Collaboration

In addition to his musical achievements, Loggins has also focused on his family life. In 2023, he retired from touring to dedicate more time to his wife, Lisa Hawkins, and his grandchildren from his previous marriages. Loggins has five adult children from his two prior marriages.

His first marriage was to Eva Ein, from 1978 to 1990. Together, they had three children: Crosby, Cody, and Isabella. Loggins later married Julia Cooper in 1992, and they had two children, Bella and Luke, before their divorce in 2004.

Loggins also expressed enthusiasm for his current musical collaborations with his new stepdaughter, Hunter, who is 25 years old. “We perform together a lot. She covers all the high notes for me now,” he shared with a touch of humor. “And being in the studio with her and working out new ideas is the most fun I’m having right now.” He described her as “amazing” and highlighted the joy he finds in creating music with her.

Reflections on Memory and Creativity

During the Grammy Museum event, Loggins touched upon the nature of memory as one ages. “I don’t know if any of you can relate to this, but as we get older, our memories get a little worse,” he remarked. “And I’ve noticed how crappy my memory is, except when I’m in the studio.” He recounted how his engineer observed that his memory remained sharp when it came to musical details, remembering “every track, every note plate.” Loggins concluded that the studio is a place where his memory remains exceptionally keen, making him feel far from “an idiot.”

Loggins, who has resided in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County for many years, has maintained a significant presence in the music industry since the 1970s. His distinctive blend of rock and pop music defined a generation, and his soundtrack contributions continue to resonate with audiences worldwide. He made a notable appearance on the red carpet in June at the 55th Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala in New York City, where he was inducted alongside other prominent artists.
