King Charles’ Approval Rating Hits New High

Published on

King Charles III has received a significant boost in public approval, with a recent survey indicating that a majority of Britons believe he is performing well as monarch. This positive sentiment comes as the King nears the end of his fourth year on the throne, with public opinion towards the monarchy and senior royals remaining largely stable.

King Charles’ Approval Rating Soars

According to data from YouGov, 68% of Britons now believe King Charles III is doing a good job as monarch. This figure represents the highest approval rating recorded by YouGov’s tracker since Charles ascended to the throne. In contrast, only 16% of respondents feel he is doing a bad job.

Further underscoring the positive public perception, more than six in ten Britons (62%) hold a favourable view of the King. This is a notable increase, doubling the 31% who expressed an unfavourable opinion. These latest figures align with YouGov’s ongoing tracking, which has consistently shown a favourable view of King Charles among 59% to 63% of Britons over the past two years.

Monarchy’s Stable Public Standing

The survey results indicate that the overall opinion towards the British monarchy and its senior members remains steady and predominantly positive. This stability suggests that the institution continues to hold a significant place in the public’s regard, even as the King approaches his fourth anniversary as sovereign.

Royal Family Dynamics and Public Perception

Beyond the King’s personal approval ratings, the survey also touched upon the public’s view of other members of the royal family, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. While Prince Harry’s popularity has seen an increase since the previous year, most Britons still hold a negative opinion of him.

Prince Harry’s Popularity on the Rise

YouGov’s poll tracker revealed a six-point rise in Prince Harry’s popularity. Currently, 33% of respondents have a positive opinion of the Duke of Sussex, an increase from 27% recorded last year. Concurrently, negative opinions regarding Prince Harry have seen a slight decrease, falling from 62% to 58%.

Meghan Markle’s Public Image

Meghan Markle has also experienced a marginal uptick in public favourability. Her approval rating has risen by three percentage points, with 22% of the British population now holding a favourable view of her.

Recent Royal Family Interactions

These public opinion shifts occur against a backdrop of recent personal interactions between members of the royal family. Earlier this month, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, visited the UK with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. During this visit, the family had a private meeting with King Charles.

Meeting at Highgrove House

Prince Harry travelled to his father’s residence, Highgrove House, in Gloucestershire, where he was joined by Queen Camilla. The meeting marked the first time that Prince Archie, aged 7, and Princess Lilibet, aged 5, have met their grandfather since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022. The visit provided an opportunity for the young grandchildren to reconnect with their grandfather.

Previous Encounters Between King Charles and Prince Harry

The meeting at Highgrove House followed a previous encounter between King Charles and Prince Harry in September 2025. At that time, Prince Harry was seen arriving at King Charles’ London residence, Clarence House. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the King had a private tea with his son, a meeting that lasted approximately one hour.

Conclusion: A Resilient Monarchy

The latest YouGov survey highlights a strong and growing approval for King Charles III, indicating a positive reception of his reign thus far. The stable public perception of the monarchy, coupled with modest increases in favourability for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, suggests a complex but resilient public sentiment towards the royal family. The recent private meetings between King Charles and Prince Harry, including their children, may also contribute to a gradual shift in family dynamics and public perception.
