Royal Family Gathers for Second Day of Ascot
King Charles and Queen Camilla have made a notable appearance at Royal Ascot for a second consecutive day. On Wednesday, the royal couple was accompanied by a less frequently seen member of the monarch’s extended family: Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband. The pair were seated together during the carriage procession on the event’s second day.
Lady Sarah Chatto’s Ascot Appearance
Lady Sarah Chatto presented a striking figure at the races, opting for a sophisticated cream dress paired with a matching wide-brimmed hat. Her ensemble bore a distinct resemblance to Queen Camilla’s attire. Her husband complemented the occasion in a smart dark suit.
Later in the day, Lady Sarah was observed sharing company with another cousin, Princess Anne, as they both focused their attention on the racing action.
Lady Sarah Chatto’s Royal Connections
Lady Sarah Chatto is the daughter of the late Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, making her King Charles’s cousin. While she does not undertake official royal duties, she occasionally participates in broader family gatherings and significant events.
Recent Public Appearances
Her most recent public sighting was earlier this month at the wedding of Peter and Harriet Phillips. On that occasion, Lady Sarah was seen with her brother, David Armstrong-Jones, and her elder son, Samuel Chatto, dressed in a white shirt and a dark maxi-skirt.
Prior to that, she was among the royals who visited the British Museum to review the final design concepts for a memorial dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was Lady Sarah’s aunt. It is understood that the late Queen held a deep affection for Sarah, allowing her niece to join her at Craigowan Lodge, a private retreat in Aberdeenshire.
Their bond reportedly strengthened following the death of Princess Margaret, with whom Queen Elizabeth shared a very close relationship. Following the passing of Prince Philip in April 2021, the late Queen spent a period of mourning at her Scottish residence, Balmoral, where close family members offered support. Lady Sarah was among those who stayed with her during this time.
Lady Sarah also attended Prince Philip’s funeral, which was subject to attendance restrictions due to prevailing coronavirus measures at the time.
Beyond her connection to the late Queen, Lady Sarah maintains a strong relationship with her eldest cousin. She notably served as the chief bridesmaid at his wedding to Princess Diana in 1981.
