King’s Birthday Honours Recognise 1,182 UK Citizens
This year’s King’s Birthday Honours have celebrated the exceptional achievements of 1,182 individuals from across the United Kingdom. These awards acknowledge their significant contributions to their communities and the nation at large.
Diverse Ranks for Varied Contributions
The honours system encompasses a range of distinctions, including the prestigious Order of the Companions of Honour, Knight/Dame Grand Cross, and Knight/Dame Commander of the Bath. These accolades are bestowed upon individuals for their impact in fields such as the arts, science, medicine, government, and public service.
Knighthoods and Damehoods for National Impact
Individuals receiving Knighthoods and Damehoods are granted the right to use the titles “Sir” or “Dame.” These honours recognize substantial national contributions. Among this year’s recipients are acclaimed writers Julia Donaldson and Malorie Blackman, alongside prominent rugby league figure Kevin Sinfield.
Order of the British Empire Awards
Further distinctions within the honours system include the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). These awards acknowledge contributions at different levels: CBE for prominent national impact, OBE for major local contributions, and MBE for significant long-term community involvement.
Lionesses and Local Heroes Honoured
Notable recipients of MBEs this year include several members of the victorious Euros-winning Lionesses, such as Chloe Kelly, Michelle Agyemang, Hannah Hampton, Alessia Russo, Lauren James, and Jess Carter. Additionally, the British Empire Medal (BEM) was presented to 306 individuals for their dedicated local contributions.
