India Seal Series 4-1 in Thrilling T20 Finale

Ishan Kishan smashed his first T20 international century, while Arshdeep Singh claimed a five-wicket haul, powering India to a commanding 46-run victory over New Zealand. The win clinches the series 4-1 and sets India up strongly ahead of their T20 World Cup defense.

Electing to bat first in Thiruvananthapuram, India racked up an imposing 271-5 in their 20 overs. Kishan led the charge with a blistering 103 off just 43 balls, featuring six fours and 10 sixes. The left-handed opener anchored a crucial 137-run third-wicket stand with captain Suryakumar Yadav, who contributed a fluent 63.

Kishan’s Explosive Innings Lights Up the Game

India stumbled early, losing opener Sanju Samson for a duck. But Kishan steadied the ship and unleashed fury against New Zealand’s leg-spinner Ish Sodhi, hammering four fours and two sixes in a explosive 12th over worth 29 runs. Suryakumar marked his third half-century of the series with back-to-back sixes.

Spinner Mitchell Santner struck back by stumping Suryakumar, yet Kishan pressed on to reach his milestone ton off 42 deliveries with a massive six. He celebrated amid roaring cheers from the crowd and teammates. A dropped catch on 84 by Glenn Phillips proved costly, but Kishan eventually departed to Jacob Duffy after his match-defining knock.

Hardik Pandya then accelerated, scoring 42 off 17 balls, as India plundered 169 runs in the final 10 overs to set a daunting target.

Arshdeep’s Spell Dismantles New Zealand

New Zealand’s chase began promisingly, with opener Finn Allen blasting 80 off 38 balls. He shared a 100-run second-wicket partnership with Rachin Ravindra (30). However, Arshdeep Singh turned the tide, securing his maiden five-wicket haul in T20Is with figures of 5-51.

After an initial struggle—conceding 40 runs for one wicket in his first two overs—Arshdeep bounced back fiercely. He claimed two wickets in one over, including Ravindra and captain Santner for a golden duck. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel supported with three wickets to stifle the middle order.

Ish Sodhi offered resistance with 33 off 15 balls, but New Zealand folded for 225 in 19.4 overs, handing India a decisive triumph.

India kicks off their T20 World Cup campaign next Saturday against the United States in Mumbai, entering as the top-ranked side with momentum on their side.
