Former University of Kansas basketball standout Lagerald Vick has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a July 4 shooting incident in Memphis, Tennessee. Police identified the 29-year-old Vick, a national champion during his college career, as the suspect after a victim identified him from a photo lineup. The incident occurred at a party on the north side of the city.

According to a police affidavit, Vick faces charges of first-degree attempted murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. His bond has been set at $1.5 million. The alleged victim, Carlos Funzie, told authorities that he was attending a July 4 party when he was approached by a man, later identified as Vick, who had a handgun concealed under his armpit. Funzie stated that he attempted to de-escalate the confrontation by turning away. It was at this point that Funzie reported being shot in the lower back by the assailant, who then fled the scene. Funzie was transported to a local hospital via private vehicle for treatment of his injuries.
During the police investigation, Funzie provided the suspect’s first name and subsequently identified Vick from a six-person photographic array. Vick, who is reportedly without legal representation at this time, was arrested following this identification.
