An air traffic controller directed a fire truck into the path of an Air Canada plane at LaGuardia Airport, leading to a fatal crash that killed two people. The controller remained on duty for several minutes following the incident.
NTSB Chair Addresses Controller’s Post-Crash Status
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy revealed that the unidentified controller stayed active after the collision. “Normally they would be relieved,” Homendy stated. “We have questions about that. Was anybody available to relieve that controller? We don’t know that yet.”
Ongoing Investigation into Tower Operations
Investigators examine the air traffic control shift change, personnel present in the tower, and availability during the crash. Authorities seek to clarify these factors to understand the full sequence of events.
