San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones joined a viral snowball fight in New York City this week, sparking backlash from Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Jones shared TikTok footage of himself hurling snowballs at Washington Square Park on Monday, captioning the clip ‘Snowball launchmaxxing.’ He quipped back to a fan praising his accuracy as ‘throwing dots out there’ by calling his throws ‘absolute rippers.’
Mayor Condemns Attack on Police
The fight escalated when participants targeted police officers patrolling streets after a massive blizzard blanketed Manhattan. No evidence links Jones to assaults on officers.
Mayor Mamdani urged respect, stating, “Officers, like all city workers, have been out in a historic blizzard, keeping New Yorkers safe and cars moving. Treat them with respect.” He joked, “If anyone’s catching a snowball, it’s me.”
Authorities arrested 27-year-old content creator Gusmane Coulibaly on Thursday for obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a violation. Police released photos of three more suspects involved.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch labeled the officers’ treatment “disgraceful” and “criminal.”
Jones Shines Amid Trade Buzz
Jones, 27, delivered a solid 2025 season for the 49ers, replacing injured Brock Purdy and posting a 5-3 record as starter.
His play fuels trade rumors to quarterback-needy teams, but San Francisco values him as a premier backup.
General Manager John Lynch lauded him: “Mac made this place better. He was outstanding this season. He picked us up in a huge way and it was a really fun process to watch him come in and the joy that he was playing with. He’s got an infectious attitude that affects everybody on our team. It affected that quarterback room. He’s been an outstanding addition.”
San Francisco may hold firm despite interest, following Jones’ first-round selection by New England in 2021.
