Married At First Sight Australia contestant Bec Zacharia expresses deep regret for not defending bride Stella Mickunaite during a heated dinner party confrontation. The 32-year-old Stella faced intense criticism from Brook Crompton and Gia Fleur, with attacks also targeting Alissa Fay.
Bec’s Self-Reflection and Apology
Bec acknowledges siding with Brook and Gia, especially during their assault on Alissa, and calls the experience ‘confronting and upsetting’ upon review. ‘I have such huge disappointment in myself, because I don’t act this way,’ she states. ‘The fact that I was even sitting on that side of the table was atrocious.’
She emphasizes the need to support those under attack. ‘It’s not acceptable to not stand up for these poor women who are getting absolutely throttled by bullies,’ Bec says. ‘And I became one for a night and it’s not okay. I need to take a long hard look at myself.’
Bec reveals she targeted Alissa after hearing from Gia and Scott McCristal that Alissa called her relationship ‘fake.’ Despite this, she wishes she had handled it differently. ‘Instead of standing up for Stella or pulling Alissa aside, instead I sat there and allowed this all to happen and it’s not all right,’ she admits. ‘I should have practiced what I preached so I’m just as guilty as the rest of them.’
Bec holds others accountable too. ‘Whoever sat there quiet also owes Stella and Alissa an apology, all of us are just as bad for not shutting it down,’ she declares.
Apologies Issued and Criticisms Voiced
Bec has apologized publicly to Stella and multiple times to Alissa, who attended her recent birthday party. ‘I apologised to Stella publicly for not standing up for her,’ she confirms. ‘I’ve apologised profusely multiple times to Alissa.’
She rejects Gia’s claims of producer interference or a ‘bad edit.’ ‘This is not an edit. What happened is what happened. No producer can make you go in there and scream at people,’ Bec asserts. ‘But to say that, behind the scenes, the producers are making you do this is absolute bulls*** and I think she needs to be a big girl and take accountability.’
Bec also dismisses suggestions that Stella flirted with other husbands. ‘Stella has never flirted with any of our husbands ever and to create that narrative about someone is extremely damaging,’ she says. ‘It’s categorically untrue and that narrative is entirely fabricated.’
The Dinner Party Confrontation
During the event, Brook unleashed sharp remarks at Stella. ‘You need to have a clue and realise. I’m standing up for myself because I see someone like you: “I’m so deep, I’m so deep.” I don’t think you’re deep, I just think you’re f***ing dumb,’ Brook said.
Stella responded, ‘You’re very abrasive. And what you’ve been all night is barking at other women.’ Gia interjected, ‘Barking, babe. That’s lovely. Why don’t you go back in your kennel, babe.’
Brook continued, mocking Stella’s footwear: ‘Hey babe, while you’re at it, get the stripper boots off. If you’re going to buy stripper boots, buy 100 per cent lamb, don’t buy fake leather.’
Alissa urged Brook to calm down, prompting Brook to tell her to ‘shut up’ and call her an ‘idiot.’ Gia added, ‘You wonder why everyone hates you, babe, that’s why,’ with Bec agreeing in the moment.
Plea for Understanding
Acknowledging potential backlash, Bec asks for compassion. ‘I’m hated by everyone it seems. I’ve had more hate messages overnight than I think there are comments on Instagram. That’s fine, I’ve got a thick skin,’ she says. ‘It’s deserved but, at the same time, I’m a human being and we all make mistakes. I’m asking for a little bit of grace.’
