Man Utd’s Dream Attack: Forward Options Explored

Published on

Manchester United could be set for a significant reshuffling of their attacking options ahead of the new season, with potential departures and high-profile arrivals being considered. Manager Michael Carrick is reportedly exploring strategies to bolster the squad, even after substantial summer investment. The club has already committed approximately £83 million to new signings, with further activity anticipated before the transfer window closes.

Potential Departures and Replacements

The futures of several attacking players remain uncertain. Marcus Rashford, a long-serving academy graduate, has been the subject of transfer speculation, although he is currently expected to return for pre-season training. His departure, however, would free up significant wages and potentially fund new acquisitions. Reports suggest Fenerbahçe and Tottenham have shown interest, though a move to Turkey is reportedly not Rashford’s preference.

Another forward, Joshua Zirkzee, is understood to be nearing a loan move to Juventus. The Italian club’s manager, Luciano Spalletti, has reportedly approved the transfer. Zirkzee, who joined United in 2024 for £36.5 million, has found opportunities limited under Carrick, with Benjamin Sesko often preferred as the primary striker.

Dusan Vlahovic: A Bargain Free Agent Option?

Should Zirkzee depart, the free agency market presents an opportunity for United to acquire experienced talent. Dusan Vlahovic, who recently left Juventus upon contract expiry, has been linked with a move to the Red Devils. Vlahovic brings a strong track record, having scored 68 goals in 168 appearances for Juventus and a career total of 140 club goals. His European experience could make him an ideal candidate to provide competition and cover for Sesko. Acquiring a free agent like Vlahovic would signal continued support for Sesko while introducing a high-caliber player to push for starting minutes. This strategy would also offer Carrick greater flexibility in managing his squad’s fitness throughout a demanding schedule.

Assessing the Flanks and Playmaking

With Sesko established as the central striker, the focus shifts to the wide attacking positions. Amad and Bryan Mbeumo have reportedly secured the right flank, contributing a combined 21 goal involvements last season. The left wing could see further reinforcement. If Rashford were to leave, Iliman Ndiaye has been identified as a potential replacement. Ndiaye, who has Premier League experience with Everton, has reportedly been valued at around £70 million. Despite having three years remaining on his contract, he is reportedly open to a move, though Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal is also interested.

Patrick Dorgu, another player who has impressed Carrick, offers another option on the left. The 21-year-old, capable of playing across the left flank, was performing well before an injury last season. In the crucial number 10 role, Bruno Fernandes is expected to continue as the team’s primary playmaker and captain, operating within Carrick’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Summer Signings and Departures

The club’s summer activity has already seen significant investment. Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Karl Darlow are among the new arrivals. On the outgoing side, Casemiro has moved to Inter Miami on a free transfer, while Rasmus Hojlund’s loan move to Napoli has been made permanent for approximately £43.2 million.

Conclusion: Building a Balanced Attack

The potential transfer activity surrounding Manchester United’s attacking unit highlights a strategic approach to squad building. By potentially replacing departing forwards with experienced free agents and high-value signings, Carrick aims to create a dynamic and versatile attack capable of competing on multiple fronts. The integration of new talent alongside established players like Fernandes and Sesko, coupled with depth on the wings, could provide the team with the necessary firepower and resilience for the upcoming season.
