Manchester United prepares to solidify its Champions League position against Bournemouth on Friday evening. Interim manager Michael Carrick’s side seeks to extend its three-point lead in third place with a strong performance against the Cherries. The recent victory over Aston Villa, fueled by goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, has boosted the team’s momentum under Carrick’s leadership. The trip to Bournemouth tests United’s top-four credentials ahead of a pivotal summer transfer window.
Carrick Cautious on Mason Mount’s Return
Michael Carrick confirms he will not rush Mason Mount back into the starting lineup. The 27-year-old rejoined the matchday squad for the Aston Villa clash but has yet to feature since Carrick’s first game in charge two months ago.
“Starting would be too much, I think, at this point,” Carrick stated. “Just for the training time and the exposure he’s had, really. But it’s brilliant to have him back. He’s a fantastic player, Mason, and great to have around the group again. So [I’m] delighted to have him back and, obviously, the break coming up now gives him a chance to get even more up to speed. So, in some ways, that’s come at a good time for him.”
Jadon Sancho Draws Dortmund Interest for Third Spell
Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has piqued the interest of former club Borussia Dortmund. The 25-year-old winger has managed just one goal in 29 appearances across all competitions during his loan at Aston Villa.
Dortmund eyes a third stint with Sancho once his United contract expires this summer. The German side previously avoided signing wingers to suit Niko Kovac’s tactics, but the manager now supports pursuing a deal. United acquired Sancho from Dortmund for £73 million in 2021, but his tenure proved disappointing. He returned briefly to Dortmund in 2024, spent the prior season at Chelsea, and joined Villa late for 18 league outings this campaign.
