Man Utd Transfer News: Lewis-Skelly Future Uncertain Amid Baleba Deal

Published on

Manchester United’s transfer window activities are heating up as manager Michael Carrick aims to bolster his squad for the upcoming season. Following a strong finish in the Champions League places last term, the club is actively seeking to enhance its midfield, having already secured the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. The pursuit of a third midfield addition remains a priority, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba reportedly nearing a move to Old Trafford.

Carlos Baleba Transfer Saga Continues

Manchester United have reportedly submitted an initial offer of £60 million, with potential add-ons totaling £5 million, for Brighton’s 22-year-old midfielder, Carlos Baleba. This move signifies a renewed interest from United, who previously targeted the Cameroonian international last summer. Despite the offer reportedly falling short of Brighton’s valuation, talks between the two clubs are said to be ongoing, with both sides working towards an agreement.

The Athletic has indicated that the clubs are “closing in” on a deal for Baleba, suggesting a positive trajectory for the transfer. Should the move materialize, it would see Baleba arrive at Old Trafford a year after United’s initial pursuit. The midfielder is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury, though it is not expected to cause significant long-term disruption to his playing schedule.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom had previously commented on United’s interest last season, stating, “There was interest from Manchester United, and we said that he wasn’t available this summer and they went away. So we’ve had many bigger sagas in the past. But Carlos Baleba, his improvement has been immense. Massively important player to this football club, and just delighted that he’s with us for this season.” This indicates Baleba’s crucial role at Brighton and the club’s firm stance on his availability until now.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s Future at Arsenal

In parallel, Arsenal prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly has also been linked with a potential move to Manchester United. The 19-year-old versatile player, capable of operating in both midfield and at left-back, has attracted attention from several clubs, including United and Chelsea. This speculation intensified following the arrival of Bruno Guimarães at Arsenal, which has led to questions about the future of other players in the squad.

Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick addressed the speculation surrounding Lewis-Skelly and teammate Ethan Nwaneri. “There’s been a lot of speculation around players,” Garlick stated. “I can’t stop other clubs being interested. I think Myles has had a fantastic end to last season and has started this one really well – we’re very, very happy with him. Ethan has had a great pre-season as well and I think it’s just a case of looking at what opportunities there are that will help both of those in terms of their career moving forward.”

Garlick further clarified Arsenal’s position: “We are not actively looking at selling those homegrown players but if the right opportunity came up – right for them and the club – we’d obviously consider that.” This suggests that while Arsenal values Lewis-Skelly and is not actively seeking to offload him, they would be open to considering offers if they align with the player’s career progression and the club’s interests.

Manchester United’s Transfer Strategy

Michael Carrick’s strategy appears focused on a significant midfield overhaul, with the potential signings of Baleba and the interest in Lewis-Skelly underscoring this ambition. The club is also reportedly in the market for a left-back, indicating a broader effort to strengthen multiple areas of the squad.

The ongoing negotiations for Carlos Baleba highlight Manchester United’s determination to secure their primary midfield targets. The club’s willingness to invest a substantial sum demonstrates their commitment to rebuilding the team and competing at the highest level. The situation with Myles Lewis-Skelly adds another layer of complexity to United’s transfer window, as they navigate potential opportunities for promising young talent while respecting the player’s current club’s stance.

Conclusion

As the summer transfer window progresses, Manchester United are actively pursuing key targets to enhance their squad, particularly in midfield. The reported near-completion of a deal for Carlos Baleba from Brighton, alongside the ongoing speculation surrounding Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, indicates a busy and strategic period for the club. While Baleba’s transfer seems to be moving towards a conclusion, Lewis-Skelly’s future remains subject to potential opportunities that would benefit both the player and Arsenal, leaving Manchester United monitoring the situation closely.
