Martin Compston, 41, follows a strict ‘no sugar’ diet orchestrated by his wife Tianna to slip back into his signature waistcoats as DI Steve Arnott in the upcoming seventh series of Line of Duty.
Compston’s Organic Diet Plan
Ahead of spring filming, Compston adopts the Whole30 organic diet, eliminating sugar entirely. His wife, an exceptional cook, prepares meals like chicken wings with asparagus, cabbage, and miso sauce. ‘I’m filming series seven of Line of Duty in the spring, and before I start a new project I do this thing called the Whole30 organic diet, orchestrated by my wife, who, unlike me, is a phenomenal cook, where you totally cut out sugar,’ Compston stated. These changes ensure he fits perfectly into his character’s trademark waistcoats.
Returning Cast and Familiar Foes
Compston reprises DI Steve Arnott alongside Vicky McClure as Kate Fleming and Adrian Dunbar as Superintendent Ted Hastings. Owen Teale returns as Chief Constable Philip Osborne, a persistent adversary to Arnott and Hastings.
The series, a hit since 2012 with over 10 million viewers per episode, continues its legacy of gripping police corruption stories.
Plot Twists and ‘H’ Hunt Revival
Series seven resumes after the controversial season six finale, where Det Supt Ian Buckells emerged as the corrupt ‘H’. AC-12’s trio pursues the elusive figure once more, alongside probing new character Det Insp Dominic Gough. Celebrated for dismantling organized crime, Gough now faces allegations of abusing his position for sexual predation.
A TV insider indicates fan backlash over the prior ending prompted the renewal, with creator Jed Mercurio delivering the desired ‘H’ storyline revival. A new villain emerges, their plot intertwined with ‘H’ for heightened drama. AC-12 operates post-disbandment under a rebrand.
Cast and Creator Buzz
Mercurio expressed gratitude: ‘Everyone involved in Line of Duty feels enormous gratitude to the show’s fans. We’re privileged to have had so many of you follow the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn’t be more delighted to be returning for a seventh.’ He quipped on recent corruption: ‘Corruption in this country is supposed to have come to an end while Line of Duty was off air so I’ve been forced to use my imagination.’
Compston called it ‘a job of a lifetime,’ praising lifelong friendships formed. ‘I can’t wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together.’
McClure shared excitement: ‘It goes without saying I’m so excited Line of Duty is back! Can’t wait to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we’ll see you soon!’
On the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Compston revealed scripts are ‘fantastic’ and ‘a proper page turner,’ emphasizing timely production after a deliberate hiatus for a solid storyline.
