Mike Myers made a rare public outing dressed as his iconic Shrek character to celebrate Eddie Murphy receiving the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The 62-year-old actor donned green face paint and ogre ears, channeling the beloved DreamWorks figure. Myers, known for dominating the late 1990s and early 2000s with blockbusters like Austin Powers and the Shrek series, has largely stepped back from major roles in recent years. He previously starred alongside Murphy, who voiced the unforgettable Donkey in the animated hits.
Tribute on Stage
During the ceremony, Myers praised Murphy’s contributions. “None of the Shrek success could have happened without Eddie Murphy; his character Donkey is a masterpiece,” Myers stated. “As is every character that Eddie has created. It is an absolute honor to be able to tell my kids that I got to work with Eddie Murphy.”
The event drew Hollywood stars to recognize Murphy’s groundbreaking career in comedy and film, highlighting his enduring influence on entertainment.

Myers’ Recent Ventures and Shrek 5
Myers has made selective appearances lately, including a role in Bohemian Rhapsody, voicing Shrek in specials, and leading the Netflix series The Pentaverate. Last year, he thrilled Saturday Night Live fans by reviving his classic character Linda Richman— inspired by his ex-mother-in-law—for the show’s 50th anniversary special. Joined by Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, he delivered catchphrases like skin like “buttah” and getting “a little verklempt.”
Fans on X celebrated the return, with comments like “Mike Myers is still killing it as Linda Richman” and “Mike Myers as Linda Richman is still ‘buttah’.”
Shrek 5 enters development, slated for a June 2027 theatrical release, with Myers and Murphy reprising their roles.
