Millie Mackintosh reveals she now enjoys being alone and is evolving into the woman she wants to be, highlighting the strength of self-prioritization following her recent separation from husband Hugo Taylor.
Sobriety Sparks Self-Discovery
The 36-year-old former Made in Chelsea star shared these insights on the A Millennial Mind podcast. She described rebuilding her identity after quitting alcohol in summer 2022, an experience that prompted her to question her true self.
“It’s been a transformative process, like burning down the old me to start anew,” Millie explained. “Who am I without alcohol? That felt scary at first.”
She realized she is a sensitive introvert with ADHD, preferring small gatherings, early nights, time with her dog, and playful moments with her children over wild parties. “The most important relationship is the one with ourselves,” she added. “When drinking, I carried shame and hated myself.”
Millie documented her binge-drinking struggles, which began young, in her book Bad Drunk. Sobriety’s greatest gift, she says, is self-love and comfort in solitude. “Being alone with my thoughts no longer feels like torture.”
Embracing Change Amid Separation
Just two weeks after announcing their split on February 2, Millie expressed excitement for the future. The couple, married since June 2018, share daughters Sienna, 5, and Aurelia, 4. Those close to them confirm co-parenting remains their top priority as they navigate family life apart.
“Choosing yourself creates a powerful shift,” Millie stated. “You value yourself higher, gain respect, and become magnetic, attracting what you desire.”
Last month, Millie attended a wellness retreat in India to heal her nervous system, sharing Instagram posts without her wedding ring. One read: “You don’t always have to know what comes next. Accept yourself in this moment.” Another declared: “It’s time to own your power.” Meanwhile, Hugo enjoyed a skiing holiday.
Relationship History
Millie and Hugo met as teenagers and dated during Made in Chelsea. Their first romance ended after six months amid cheating allegations involving Millie’s friend Rosie Fortescue. “Those feelings don’t disappear,” Millie once reflected.
She later married rapper Professor Green (Stephen Manderson) in 2013, but they separated after 30 months in 2016. Millie and Hugo rekindled their bond that year, welcoming Sienna in 2020 and Aurelia in 2021.
